Drive Recorder Error

Just tried to take a recording and got this error.

Any ideas of a fix? It was working yesterday.

Well this is exciting..

We need more details, you might be the only one on the forums with the drive recorder on a G20. How did you get it in the first place, is this in fact a 3 series, did you have to pay for the feature? If you have a 3 and have this feature please also give us your software version number.

Yes this is a 3 series. All new 3 series in the UK that had parking assistant plus have drive recorder as standard.

I'll pull out the software version later on

First try to reboot your iDrive. Hold down mute button for 20 seconds. If that doesn't clear the issue see what menu items exist for the DR option.

You might need to take it in. DR is a new feature and surely it has software issues.

Not sure about that. I have parking assistant plus but don't see a drive recorder option. Maybe I have a different software version.

A reset of iDrive fixed it. It's now working

Had this happen as well, iDrive reset fixed but after a while the problem returned, and iDrive had to be reset again. It's a pita, because now I never know if the system is operational, in working order or not. Will it record an accident or will it fail? I understand this is a new feature, and now I'm anxiously waiting for an update that fixes this issue.

Had this fail a few times too. A reset fixed it each time.

What I've done is add the drive recorder widget to the home screen on iDrive. If it displays not available, a reset is required. That way I can tell if it's broken when starting the car.

Not a great solution at all but hopefully will be fixed in a later software version.

Have you emailed connected drive to tell them?

Thanks, good idea on the widget, going to do that as well. Just knowing if it's available or not makes me feel better about the problem.

I've been trying to figure out what's causing it to fail, haven't been able to pinpoint a specific reason.

I PM'd BMW on Twitter and contacted ConnectedDrive as well, and I've also told my dealer about the failure.

I think I may have found a link with this error.

It only seems to stop working if when starting the car, it defaults to spotify from the previous journey. If on DAB it seem to be fine.

Any anyone else confirm?

I have the same problem. Car picked up on 23rd Sept. I have used the reset fix but the problem keeps recurring. Can’t confirm the Spotify/DAB link as I don't use Spotify. Reported through my dealer but no response yet. Software is 2019.28 only, but when I check for updates there are non. Why am I not at least on 30?

Can't confirm Spotify link. Tried switching to internal storage before switching car off, but problem returend nevertheless, don't have DAB as I don't listen to radio. I now also experienced camera problem on parking assistant. Parking camera video screens went grey with 'camera failure' message. That was solved by switching the parking assistant off and back on in center console. :-/

I contacted ConnectedDrive again, first time through website with no response, this time by phone. They were very helpful; a ticket has been created for this issue which will be dispatched to Munich. According to a member of ConnectedDrive Support I should have feedback in about 10 days. I will update this post if and when I have any news.

Spoke to ConnectedDrive this morning. No further news except that they said there are varieties of error as well as the one reported here - sometimes it’s working but recordings can’t be made, and sometimes playback doesn’t work! Sounds a mess. My dealer suggested giving them the car back for 48 hours so they could investigate. I declined that offer.

The spotify link was a red herring, it still does this from time to time when on radio.

Also getting driver recorder error.

Having the widget on the screen makes it visible when it fails and iDrive reset sorts it, however BMW need to get this software sorted out..

Same error/issue. Resetting IDrive resolves the problem temporarily, but logs the car out of Spotify necessitating a re-run of the set up procedure. Frustrating!

I spoke to the “Genius” at my dealer today about my issues with Drive Recorder. He had not heard of any issues (obviously not on this forum!) but said he would investigate and get back to me.

If I get any update I’ll let you know.

So, ConnectedDrive Support replied. It's a ridiculous reply tho' as it was me that told them that the problem can temporary be resolved with an iDrive reset. Very disappointed in ConnectedDrive tech support.
