Is RTTI now a subscription service in the US?

It appears that Real Time Traffic Information (option code 6AM) is now a subscription service in the US. For MY19, it was part of the Premium Package, but it's not listed in the MY20 guides. And when I set up my MY20 X4 in BMW Connected, it showed RTTI as an option to add for $50/year. I have to admit, for the first time, I'm really pissed about all this subscription crap that BMW is nickel and dimeing us with.

If this changed, it happened with MY20 models. Also, I know all this subscription stuff is different from market-to-market, so it may have changed in the US but not in Canada.

I had 2018 and 2019 X3’s. My understanding was it was part of the Connected experience and prepaid for first 4 yrs (or so).. then year-to-year after that. No idea what price was supposed to be.

I just checked my US delivered MY2020 X3 M40i and it has RTTI active. I have every package so not sure which one RTTI came with. I checked the connected drive web site and all my subscriptions are good for 4 years except Carplay which is only good for a year.

Thanks. That's good to know. Hopefully, my X4 will be the same.

I think RTTI comes as part of the Live Cockpit Pro which is part of the executive and premium packages. So if you have either/both of those, you will have RTTI.

RTTI (6AM) was included in the MY19 X3 M40i Premium Package. It appears to have been replaced in MY20 by Connected Package Pro (6C4).

RTTI was standard in the MY19 X4 M40i and appears to have been replaced in MY20 by 6C4. So I'm guessing/hoping that RTTI is included in Connected Package Pro now. I don't know why it's not shown on my Connected page, but I'll follow-up next week during my PCD.

Thanks again!

Here in Australia, it has been a subscription based service from the beginning. I got my X3 in 2017 at launch and it comes with 3-4 years for all services (except Apple CarPlay). At the end of 3 years, I'll need to pay the subscription fee. Did not know that it was not the same in the US.

I wonder how RTTI compares to google maps or waze (as far as traffic and live route updates according to congestion). I love having directions on the heads up display so I'd prefer to just keep using BMW Nav.

Directions on the HUD/cluster is the main reason I use the BMW nav, but it's inferior to google maps. I've found one big area in which google excels that matters where I live: google plans routes based on how bad traffic WILL be when I get to a certain part of my trip, whereas BMW nav plans routes based on how bad traffic IS at the current moment and will then possibly find alternate routes as traffic changes. Google also has more stout traffic data as they use the movement of android phones and iphones with google maps that are connected to cars to calculate their traffic data.

It's unfortunate, but I agree 100%. Plus, with Waze (by Google), you get all the LEO alerts which are so good that they're making radar detectors obsolete.

Real Time Traffic came FREE with my 2020 X3 x30i for the first 3 years. After that it's a $50/yr option. Living in the Chicago area I find it very useful and plan on subscribing after the free period ends. Probably very useful for others in major metro areas with heavy traffic.

BTW....I'n NOT a Waze or Google user in the car. The BMW nav works well for me and I find it easy to use.

Isn't RTTI delivered over 3G, and aren't they phasing out 3G nationwide in the next couple years? Or are G01's using 4G modules?

I believe they use LTE, which is 4G, right?

You might might give Waze a shot if you haven't used it before, if only for comparison purposes. I've found it to be more accurate and faster reporting than any other platform since it's crowd sourced (I haven't used Google maps lately) with a very large user base. Especially when it comes to potential LEO speed monitoring. $50 a year isn't the worst but free is always better!

(Waze tip, turn off seeing fellow Wazers...distracting and not useful IMO).

LTE is 4G, but I have no idea which modules the G01 uses, or if there was any change to them since the 2018 MY.
