Upcoming M Multifunction Front Seat Option
I'm very curious about the M Multifunction Front Seats that have been announced, coming to the X5, X6, and X7 in Dec 2019 as discussed in this thread here:
https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1653800 So today I went and tried out comparable seats in-person at a dealer, taking a couple hours on the seats and other things to really get a good feel. Thanks goes to BMW of Grapevine, TX, for letting me bum around their lot. Seats I checked out the most were in a Competition M5, as pictured. Seats have a very nice first appearance, looking both classy, and sporty with the headrest design and side "wings". I verified that yes, the M5 headrest logo does light up with the interior lights when a door is opened, then dims with the same when the door is closed. See comparative logo pics below, for the logo light on, and off. I thought the M stitching on the seatbelt was a nice touch. And I did confirm that these particular seats did have both ventilation and massaging features. Testing both of them out, they seemed to work the same as the non-M seats. No stronger or weaker than non-M seats. (and I do love the massage feature) So, the biggest question for me was, how do they feel? Seat comfort is huge, if for no other reason than it's a feature you're directly affected by, 100% of the time you spend in the vehicle. Sitting down, my immediate exact words were "Ohhhhhhhhhhh, baby..." VERY comfortable. Enhanced cushioning comfort on the butt, and some on the back as well. After spending some time in the seats, (stationary) I think I can say a qualified, "these are the most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in". FWIW, I'm a big tall guy. Comparing directly to the X7 Multi-Contour seats, these M Multifunction seats seemed to have all the same functions and adjustments. For those who were wondering, yes, the headrest does still go up and down. The side bolsters seem to be just a bit more effective with the M Multifunction "wings". Since some owners with the ventilation and massage functions have reported their seat bottoms to be a bit harder, I can see how these Multifunction seats could counter that for more comfort. For comparison, here's the M5 M Multifunction seat controls (top) and the X7 non-M Multi-contour seat controls: There's only one way the non-M Multi-contour seats won, and that's headrest comfort. The M Multifunction headrests are VERY firm, whereas the non-M Multi-contour headrests (seat and headrest shown below for comparison) are luxuriously pillow soft and comfy. I thought about this for a while--when I drive, my head is upright, not leaning back against the headrest, so I don't really see this being an issue for me. I only foresee it being an issue for whomever is sitting in the front passenger seat, as they very well could be leaning back against the headrest. The non-M Multi-Contour seat and headrest, for comparison: Comparable seats seemed to have a little different design and implementation in the X3M Competition, X4M, and M4 convertible, as shown here. They also didn't necessarily have the same controls. One thing I got a kick out of, was on the M4 convertible, you can get "neck warmers", which are those little vents you see at the base of the headrest. So in my book, other than the super hard firmness of the headrests, these seats are a DEFINITE heck yes, and a home run. We'll have to see how BMW implements them in the X7 this December, if they're offered with some other packaging (as insinuated in the news article about "Individual Composition"), and what the cost will be. But unless they really bone something up, this is definitely going to be a "shut up and take my money" kind of thing for me on my upcoming X7. As always, hope this helps other people make their decisions as well. Here's some other picture fodder of the M5 seats: Last edited by Wild Blue; 09-22-2019 at 01:18 AM.. |

Correct me if I’m wrong but these seats are currently only offered on the M models. So I’d expect them to be on the X5M and X6M but not any of the other sub models or the X7.

Let's see what BMW is planning. I can see them putting them on the X7 simply because there is no X7M.

Yeah, but do check out that link I put at the top of the thread. BMW is specifically announcing these seats are coming to the X5, X6, and X7. Production starting December 2019

These seat pics are now on the BMWUSA website, for the X5M. I would imagine the X7 seats will look fairly similar, but without the super-sporty textures on these.

And more from the X6M. I would expect to see more and more info on these seats as the next few months progress, with more info on the X5M, X6M, and planned seat release for the G05 and G07.

Well, the new seats made it on the German configurator.
I believe though that there are still some glitches. Right now, they are only available on there with the extended black merino leather and the Anthracite Alcantara headliner. I also noticed that right now, the new Individual trim that was discussed here (metal inserts) is currently gone as well which indicates that the configurator might not be up to date. |

Cool, thanks. I'm trying to muddy my way through that site--my German is limited. I think I do see the Black Wood with Aluminum Insert Trim in the "Individual Package" they offer. And I think I did find the M-multifunction seats we're talking about, too.
https://configure.bmw.de/de_DE/confi...TF,S0925,S09D7 They look great, and pretty much just what I was hoping for, for these implemented in the X7. I might prefer "X7" in the headrest insert, instead of the //M. (again, I don't want to be a "fake-M poser") If I'm finding it correctly, it's a 1,200 Euro cost option for those seats. (unknown if there's credit, if you're upgrading from other particular seats) Here's what I see: Last edited by Wild Blue; 10-09-2019 at 07:01 AM.. |

Yup, the black wood with aluminum is back.
However, it still only lets you pick the M-seats with either extended merino leather black or Vernasca leather black, together with the dark alcantara headliner. I would get these seats in a heartbeat but ONLY with the ivory FULL leather and the matching light alcantara headliner. Of course, ventilation and massage is a must, too. As it is set up right now, it even takes away the ventilation- and massage-feature if you select the M-seats so I'm guessing they still have to fix the configurator. |

It's up and running on the UK configurator now too.
https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/co...0C,S0Z0J,S0ZGK Also a separate option for M seat belts for £260. And this is interesting. Only seems to be available for the bench seat, though, not Captain's Chairs. £170 Luggage compartment separating net With the Luggage-compartment separating net, it is possible to make full use of the generously sized luggage compartment without having to individually secure the various objects. It helps prevent objects from flying forwards in the case of a crash or even hard braking. The separating net also provides pet owners with a good way to safely transport dogs. This equipment includes a net for use when all the rear seats are upright, or behind the front seats when all the rear seats are folded down. The separating net is equipped with a belt height adjuster for adjustment to different positions. Four sturdy fastening points are discreetly anchored in the roof support bar. When not in use, the Luggage-compartment separating net can be stored in a practical storage bag. Not available with the six-seater option. Here's the UK site info on the new seats. Disappointing to me that it says it isn't compatible with the Travel and Comfort System. I wonder if that means the USB-C charging ports are deleted too? Here's what the seat looks like on the configurator. Because it's a 360 view from the middle of the car, it's a side-view. I guess I can see why the Travel and Comfort system wouldn't integrate with the headrest, but still disappointing it couldn't be on the back side. Would be nice if we could get a good straight-on picture. And another of the seat back, to see what it's like for the 2nd row occupants. Hopefully it at least keeps the protective elements for kids putting shoes on the seat backs, as well as the accent lighting. Adds such a nice touch. . . . |

Luggage compartment option and M seat-belts have been available in Germany for quite a while now. I wouldn't be surprised if the belts will be made available on those seats.
Still hoping for the full leather and ivory color. A dark (black) interior is simply no option for me. |

I wonder how comfortable these are for bigger people? I feel like they would feel constricting on people with broader shoulders. I feel like on my x7 now I’m kind of hanging over a bit in the shoulder area. Although I’m still trying to get adapted to the seats coming from a big sedan.

gatordent2007 FWIW, I'm a big tall guy. 6'3", about 270 lbs. And these seats are probably the most comfortable car seats I've ever sat in. They feel great for me. Those sport wings don't squeeze your sides, they seem more decorative in style actually, although you can certainly adjust the seats as needed.

Revisiting this thread, now that we're way past December. As feared, these seats have not materialized for the US market. Overseas configurators do have these seats as options.
Has anyone actually seen these seats on an X7? (or an X5?) |

Saw the new X5M today. It has these seats. Confirmed.
I don't think they will be in an X5 or X7 (X7B perhaps).

How did you like the new X5M in person? I loved the outgoing X5Ms and X6Ms but the new ones look a little underwhelming to me from the exterior perspective. Not as aggressive as they should be. Do they look better in person?

As per the previously mentioned news report, these seats are available on the X5 and X7, starting December 2019. So far, they can be found on the X5 and X7 on non-USA configurators, and a couple of members have mentioned they've ordered them on overseas models, but so far nobody has reported back on actually receiving the vehicles, or seeing them in real life. |

It still had all the wrapping on it so I could not get a real idea of how it looks. If I get over there tomorrow I'll take some photos after it comes out of the prep-center.
Covered in plastic and was being unloaded. Did not have an opportunity or the time to play with it.

These seats seen in this X5M video. Great overall review and discussion, BTW. Seats at 9:40. This is the first time I've seen the BACK of these seats, to confirm that it completely deletes not only the T&C system attachment, but also the USB-C ports, which I think is a downer.
