4 Series owners - How well do you like your car?
Starting to think about replacing my current ride and a 4 series is a consideration for me. I really like the look and the lines of the current 4 series coupe (although the Gran Coupe is really nice too!) but outside of a couple of drives in a 2015 428i M-Sport I don't have a lot of experience with these cars.
So, current 4 series owners, how do you like your car? What's good about it and what annoys you? If I go this route I haven't settled on an engine choice (the 4 cylinder is plenty but the 6 is definitely appealing) but I would definitely want the M sport goodies, especially in the handling department. Anything I really should know or that you would like to say about your 4 series? I would love to hear it and thanks in advance for your responses! |

I have a 428i GC, love the car. I was considering the 2 dr coupe before I end up with the GC. I am glad I got the GC because I have plenty of friends and the extra door is just a plus... and the lines is doesn't go match with a hatchback more like fastback. As for the engine I got i4. Considering i drove on it for 2 yrs before flashing bm3. The power is enough for driving around...you wont get left behind and the mpg is worth it.
The i6 community will just rage on it but I don't care what they say😅 |

428i coupe. I love it! I can't really think of any gripes. If I had to pick something, it would be getting in and out of the car is a bit annoying at times. It sits really low to the ground. There is also a bit of a blind spot when switching lanes. Other than that, it's great.

435i coupe here. I love the car, it puts a smile on me every time I drive it. And with the Akrapovic exhaust, it is just sweet.
The car can use a bit more soundproofing material to reduce some road noise, or maybe I should replace the run-flats. Another thing I dislike is the light steering. I appreciate it when I feel lazy, but not a big fan when I want to do some sprint driving. If you want to stay with a Porsche, the 718 cayman is nice too. Ride is more punishable but the whole package is very well put. |

I have a 430 F33 (convertible). I drive it in sport/sport+ most of the time. I like it. I got rid of my run flats and the soundproofing doesn’t bother me. I upgraded the amp and have the top down most of the time.
But with that said, I should’ve gotten a 440. |

435i xDrive owner here, it's probably the best car I've ever owned. The N55 is just a beast, personally I've never owned a car with this much power so it's quite thrilling to say the least. I had an E39 540 with close hp/tq specs but the experience was completely different, this car just freaking GOES. I upgraded from an E46 sedan and prior to that I owned half a dozen or so E36 sedans but as life went on I found myself needing back seat space less and less, plus I have an X5 for hauling stuff around. I strongly considered the M235 but to be frank I didn't like the cluster and wanted HUD, and having a little extra room is nice. Sure the M235 has a bit more hp/tq but I don't often find myself flat out flooring the gas pedal.
I have the m-sport package and I think just about every package that was available at the time (2014), I'm kind of a feature junkie and enjoy the nav and driver assistance+, not to mention the adaptive suspension and variable steering. The adaptive LED headlights are slick, especially after re-enabling variable light distribution. I can't imagine not having surround view when parking now although the side view cameras are kind of useless. I installed Eibach lowering springs which are mild but noticeable, both in drop and handling, and retains the EDC. I'm in the process of retrofitting adaptive cruise control as well, it's so sweet in stop and go traffic. What I like? Everything! The looks, power, handling, sound, space, features, I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about this car. If I had my druthers I would have chosen Estoril Blue with saddle brown interior but looking across the entire country I could not find one that had everything else I wanted. I ended up with Mineral Gray and have zero regrets. I paid $25k in May this year for mine with 22k miles on it. |

It doesn't really bother me, but my girlfriend hates the length of the doors on the F32. She always make a comment when we ride in my cousin's 430i GC and how much easier it is to get out when parked.
Get the 435i or 440i. If you're in a Macan GTS, I'd think the 2.0 liter engines aren't gonna cut it. |

I have a RWD 435 with 6MT, M Sport, Track Handling, and MPPK.
I would go with the six cyclinder engine. The F3X is a heavy car and I found the four cyclinder power plant to be rather underwhelming. Gas mileage with the N55 on the highway is really pretty good, and livable in normal driving. In my Mk6 GTI I was averaging 24mpg in daily driving. In my 435 I'm averaging around 21. Not bad. I like being able put average size adults in the back seat and it not be too uncomfortable for them. Getting in is a bit of a chore getting around the seat, but the fact it tilts forward and slides up makes the opening a good size. I was actually looking at M235's, M240s and even M2's but ended up with the 435. I felt the little bit of extra length in the wheel base and the little bit extra width made it more comfortable for my purposes. I live in an area where most travel is along fairly straight highways, the the GT-like nature of the 435 is exactly what I needed. I've autocrossed the car three times now and performs pretty well. I'm a novice and still trying to learn the limits of the car, but it has held it's own with little fuss beyond the horrible run flat tires. I can't wait to get it to an HPDE at a quality road course or put in some seat time on good twisty backroads. Neither are close and require multi-hours trips to experience, so I haven't had an opportunity since I bought the car two months ago. Honestestly, I probably would have been happy with a sedan or a GC, but being able to get a manual transmission and being able to experience something new with a two door coupe pushed me to the 4 series. |

+1 for all the previous posts on the pros of the F36 GC. No cons that I have not been able to remedy...the smaller rear window was initially a concern but took care of that by adjusting the outside mirrors the recommended way and voila, no blindspots. My daily driver is the F22 which is smaller and nimbler, but on longer trips, my preference is the GC as it has a HUGE trunk, especially with the seats down. Love that hatch opening as well, it swallows everything (almost!)

I have an F36 430i GC and I love it. Comfortable ride even with RFT. Lots of room. Lots of power. Very tossable. The halo LED lights are awesome at night and very cool during the day as well. When you close the frameless doors, they feels solid and satisfying. I know most of it is acoustic trickery but it's still impressive. It's the only few remaining rear wheel drive hatchback around. It's got a lot of presence too with long and wide stance. It looks much better in real life than pictures.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I really appreciate it. I have driven the 4 cylinder 428i and it seemed more than adequate but I've also owned a 1 series with the inline 6 in the past and it is the sexier motor, no doubt. I need some more seat time to really solve that debate.
I am also going to check out a 2 series as I don't really need the extra room of the 4 I just happen to like the way the 4 looks better. 99% of the time the back seats and luggage area of my Macan are not being used but it's nice to have the extra space in a pinch so we'll see where I end up. I do like my Macan and overall it's been a great vehicle but I do wish for something a little bit lighter and sleeker so I'm still in the planning stages as I have no actual need to replace the car. Thanks again! |

It's a nice car, for certain - fast, comfortable, economical, handsome
Mine's a 4GC 440i, with the MPPSK. My only gripes are the weight and the lack of steering feel, both of which are features of modern BMWs, sadly

420d F32 Manual - I love it, no complaints whatsoever. It's just an awesome drive and looks amazing - I'd rather have the 435 of course, but the 2.0l diesel still has plenty of power and the torque is incredible

420i F33 - had the car from new. Which is now 4 weeks. Came from Mercedes and this is the first BMW I've owned. Absolutely love it. Hard top soft top is the perfect blend of both worlds. Fuel consumption is decent for a petrol and when I need it there is a nice bit of power. I do about 15 to 20,000 miles a year so didn't fancy the petrol bill of a 440! And had enough of diesel driving.

I have a 420d auto GC and I like it very mutch. Confortable, economical, very beatifull... The trunk is a little worse than my previous F31, and it's lower also, which make the entrance in the back a little more dificult, specially for older people.
Besides that, is a great car... |

Love my 428i gc bought it when it first came out in 2015. My 3 previous cars before this one I only kept for 2-3 years then traded them in. This is the first one I've paid off and kept this long. I can easily see myself keeping this car another 2 maybe 3 years. After I paid it off I added forgestar rims + a remus exhaust to make it a little more enjoyable. I'm always smiling on the inside when I walk up to my car it looks so damn cool.
