2020 M340iX Dynapack AWD Dyno Numbers

Hey guys! Just did a baseline dyno on our 2020 M340iX. Figure you guys would be interested seeing this. Car is completely stock. It's an early delivery and the first one that Irvine BMW got (thanks Yi Wen!). We dynoed at Road Race Engineering on their Dynapack AWD dyno (thanks Mike & Robert!). Ambient temperature was 85F in the dyno room. Regular 91 octane pump gas.

For reference, we put the M340i dyno graph up against an E90 M3 that Edmunds had brought to dyno at Road Race Engineering.

FYI, OP did say it is an early model. BMW did forget to limit the hp on their early M340i. I saw another post saying early M340 has close to 400 whp! Which match this dunk number. But BMW already knew about it, later model are all reduced power. Bummer

I've yet to see an ounce of proof on this.

We did get a letter from BMW some time ago informing us of a recall that needed to be performed. Luckily for us, the car was down for development work so we didn't take it in. I did read on another thread about the reflash. Looks like we're not taking it in lol.

Any details on the recall? It's not unusual for recalls early on, it's also not unusual to know what the recall is. Lost as to why this keeps getting tossed out there yet nothing of substance exists.

Example A) https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/09/09/b...rive-vehicles/

"the issue relates to improper welding, therefore, the rear center headrest may fold in the event of a rear impact crash."

@TRK_RDY very well documented by Mission Performance.

Good info. Thanks! That seems a pretty important recall to do.

The letter does not state what the recall was for so it's just speculation on our part. Will talk to the Irvine BMW guys and see.

I picked up mine June 4th. I got a call from the dealer a couple weeks ago that I needed to bring the car in for a recall related to emissions. I asked if it would require a flash and they said yes. I declined to have the service done assuming it was to detune it after reading the mission performance thread. My SA agreed that that was most likely what they were going to do.

Unbelievable. I'm still in awe that BMW is stealing 60+ crank horsepower from all of these m340 owners. It would be interesting to hear a BMW representative's response to a person who test drove a "pre-emissions update" version and based his order of a new car on that performance, only to get a slower, less powerful car.

It’s not 60hp it’s more like 30 if this is even true

It was a loss of roughly 50 hp at the wheels according to Mission Performance (same dyno machine, same car).....so how is roughly 60 at the crank incorrect?

You think Mission Performance fabricated the numbers?

I think this whole thing is bogus, flat out.

We need more people to dyno their m340, and of this true all bmw did was slightly detune which means a flash will probably give us over 130hp

Wow hadn't heard about this.

I did notice that my car seemed slower than when it was new. I brought it back to have smart shield applied, and had an issue with the sunroof not closing. I wonder if they flashed it then?

That would make me very angry. I'd go back to them, ask if they did an update without your approval. And if so, demand they reflash it back to the original factory settings.

If BMW wants to release a car with "only" 382 hp, fine. But it's a bad move to send out early versions of that car with 430+ hp and then detune after a customer bought it based on the higher output.
