Is a 2003 M3 SMG with 13000 miles worth $30,000?

Is a 2003 M3 SMG with 13000 miles worth $30,000? I'm looking at a 2003 SMG with every option other then NAV, the guy wont take a penny less then $30,000. The SMG seemed to work fine, did the SMG have problems in 2003?The car seems to be in great shape. The owner had a 1988 M3, that he races and swears he's never raced the car, is there any way to make sure he hasn't raced the car? So is the car worth the 30K or would I be smarter to hold out for a 2005-2006 ZCP competition coupe? Thanks for everyones help.

Thanks for the advice. I've been looking for a low milage ZCP for a while, haven't had much luck and keep hearing bad things about the SMG, so I need to do a little more research on the transmissions. I've been looking for while, but saw the interlagos online and that looked pretty good too, but haven't seen it in person.
Thanks,
Chris

Sorry Laszlo, I just read that you've owned both the E46, E92, and a 335i. My goal is the E92 eventually, but I see you like the E46 much better then the 335i. Would you go with the SMG or the 6mt in the E46? And is there any difference between 2006 and 2006? Have you seen the interlagos in person? Sorry about all of the questions and thanks for the help.

Hey roadking, welcome to the forum by the way. I have driven both the E46 M3 MT and the E46 M3 SMG before finally going with the SMG. I will be honest that the MT is more fun if you are capable of a manual. The SMG is somewhat jerky in slow speeds and I find the D mode quite useless as I am more capable of anticipating the gear shifts than the computer. However, you find true joy in the SMG when you take it to a track and that's what made my decision. As Laszlo said, try to look for an M3 with the ZCP package. It's sure to make the car more fun as well as adding to the aesthetics with the CSL style rims. With the E92 out, it is much easier to find the E46 M3 at decent prices. I personally could not go with the 335i even though its performance is on par with the E46 M3, it doesn't offer that aggression an M3 does or as vain as it sounds the pride in owning an M3. Just my two cents and good luck in your decision.
