Reverse braking and cargo lights

Hey guys, finally took delivery of my X4MC on Thurs. Already driven it 350 miles and there's so much to get used to. Very impressed so far AND I haven't even delved into all the customization of the settings and gotten to really DRIVE it (sticking to the recommended sub 5K RPM break in).

But a quick question for you guys. I parallel park my car up my driveway frequently. EVERY TIME so far, only in reverse, when I let off the brake I get a VERY loud squeak (either brakes or hydraulics). I googled and found it's somewhat common on a few BMWs. This is my 4th BMW and the first for me. Hopefully it's just a break in thing. Seems to be when I release the brake vs engaging the brake. Any one else experience this?

And the cargo area lights. I saw that there were one on each side and one on the liftgate. The also look like LED lights, but I haven't figured out how to turn them on. Any advice or direction would get greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So with the brakes, I've had this with my 2016 M3 and now on my 2020 X3M. Slight squeal in reverse -- usually during the first drive of the day and not later on as much. I've been told it's just the "rust" of the brake dust that's still on the disc . . . IDK. Always fun when people in a parking lot looking at me in a nearly $80k vehicle w/squealing brakes.

As for the lighting . . . are you talking about the ambient lights? If so, those only light up at night as far as I see. There's a setting in the vehicle options to set the intensity and color of these.

From time to time my 340i's brakes will squeal at low speed at partial engagement. It's usually after a very hard rain, or if it has sat for a couple days. I've heard it's due to a slight crust of rust on the brakes.

Thanks guys. Hopefully it goes away with some more driving and braking. Not sure the "rust" or brake dust is the cause. Only because I can be driving all day, brake right before I park. And only when I reverse into the parking spot I hear it. Will keep you guys posted and see what the dealer says when I take it in for the break in service.

I get a little squeal when backing into my spot at work every morning. I think it’s just something that comes with high performance brakes. I got less consistent, but similar squealing on the F80 M3.

Aside from the reversing squeal, I find the actual braking feel and performance is superb.
