X3m - hard ride?

I’m getting a lot of reviews and comments saying how hard the ride is, how much of this is just press opinions and how much is actually true

I currently own a lowered m135 and have an x3 m40i on Order but for abit more monthly I can jump into an x3m.

This will be my only car so when doing the normal everyday things with the family etc would it be just too firm?

I’m on such a tight timeframe to order one I’m struggling to find one close enough to test drive and even look at

Thanks for any replies

I think most of the owner use a default tire pressure, what is actually to high, on this pressure - car is very hard, i am using 2.2 bar all around and car is ok, ofc it's not soft

ride is very subjective and personal, you need to try it for yourself

I traded in my m40i for a X3MC. My MC on 21 wheels has a slightly softer ride than my m40i had (20s with run-flats). Both m40i and MC have a rather firmer, sportier ride compared to competitors such as GLC63. On the positive side, MC’s body roll is minimal, curvy roads are helluva fun!

Opinions on the ride are subjective to the driver and the local roads.

For myself, I find the ride to be firm not hard. I have no problems using it as a daily. Having said that, I live in an area with decent to good, wide roads. I'm sure my perspective would differ if i lived in Jersey, or any other place with terrible pavement.

Ride was fine on the 21's here in AZ... much softer than M4 and wife's previous 335 with m sport suspension

It is firm. No denying it. I have an X3M Comp on 21's with Pilot Sport 4Ss and it is stiff. As it should be.

Note: one contributing factor is that most people are not using the "suspension" built in to the seats. We all come from sports cars and the sitting position in the X is too high so we slam the seat down to its lowest setting. Which is essentially bolting it to the floor. For those struggling with rough rides: just pop the seat setting up an inch. Works wonders.

Its softer than a M3, harder than a standard SUV, if you are used to true sports cars its fine, if you aren't and don't want that type of ride stick with M40i.

I think ride quality is great

I found the X4MC suspension firm but not uncomfortable, even in Sport mode.

It's a sports car of course it'll have a firm ride as all sports cars do. Only sports car drivers need apply.

100% correct

those saying its not a "sports car" its an SUV

definition of "car"
"a road vehicle, typically with four wheels, powered by an internal combustion engine and able to carry a small number of people."

and anything with 500 horsepower that does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds is a sports vehicle, hence sports car

they said the 2004 X3 was too stiff - I still love it. 140,000 miles on my 6 MT x3. I test drove the M and for me its fine

Just to add, I don't think the ride is hard, it's bouncy... if one side of the car goes over a speed bump it throws the car a bit, I just take these a bit slower.

I find the quicker I'm going on uneven surfaces the less bouncy it is e.g 10mph vs 30mph

I've driven the roads of Birmingham UK and found them a pleasure in the X3MC. Great choice

That sounds like a rebound issue. Do they have air suspension or mechanical? Can you raise and lower?

When I take my AMG to the lowest setting, my rebound becomes too slow and "throws the car a bit" if I hit a big bump. This is with an aftermarket lowering kit so it's 2" lower than even the factory low setting so it makes sense.

compared to my lowered m135i ( -15mm h&r springs) it was more comfortable

i put it down to a mix of the increased height, better suspension and the seats. it is still firm but not compared to cars i have owned in the past

Sounds promising, I'm switching the M140i tomorrow for one!

ride quality is partially compromised by the tires, we have the Michelins on our X3M, not sure how the Contis are. Changed over to the winter Pirellis and the ride quality is substantially better.

99% sure it's mechanical or comfort would be like riding on a pillow...

My tyres are pumped to the recommended pressure on Continentals. Maybe the pressure should be lower...

Can't see this being a rebound issue
