Service after the 1200 miles 1st service

Has anyone had there 2nd service? When did you do it and what does it entail. I believe the computer tells you when, is that right? Thanks

Yes the car will tell you when the 2nd service is due. I think when you start the ignition, the mileage until next service shows on the dash

I believe that is correct, as a general rule of thumb. However, the car can adjust that based on driving style/habits as well.

Exactly. First service after the 1200 mile service is the 15K oil service.

The onboard computer will notify you when it's time for your next service (everytime you start the ignition, you'll see the remaining miles 'till next service). I think BMW refers to this as "CBS" or "Condition Based Service". Basically the computer takes into consideration how the car is driven (not just how many miles are driven) and adjusts the service interval accordingly. It's dynamic, so it's constantly changing based on various conditions. Quite cool actually. Had this in my E46 and was able to plan my pit-stops accordingly.

You should still change your oil in between intervals

Why? BMW was smart enough to design the car but they don't know when to change the oil?

Pretty much, the engineers/builders get a lot less say in the marketing/warranty side of things. Do whatever with your car, just making the point that oil nor the filter can last BMW's recommended oil intervals.

People that care about the longevity and reliability or there car would get something as minor as the oil changed ever 7000miles..

On the 335i, managed to get the 15k service to actually happen at 12k..
