Why no track tests?

Why no track tests?

I was really disappointed that car and driver did not run the X 3m in the lightning laps… Also I cannot find any nurburgring times?

Because it's an suv and 99% of people will not take it to the track?

No doubt it's very capable, but I don't really think many people are intending to track their SUVs.

I would track mine… I have been around California speedway in a X 5m. Car and driver tested the Lamborghini and the Porsche Cayenne at lightening lap. Both beat many sports cars and almost kept up with the new BMW M5 competition. BMW tests all its cars and SUVs on the Nuremberg Ring. They are certainly capable.

99% of all test on Nurburgring are fake, they cheat with setups, with engine, with tires etd

There is almost 0% chance that the stock car can run same time. So their test are useless.

Also now is the winter time coming.

I don't see any sense to go on track with my x3mc, this car is too heavy for track, i don't care about time at all, it's same like track m5 or m8, these cars are made not for the track use

Historically BMW has tuned all of its M cars and sav on the ring. This is supposed to be the real M version of the x3. People are losing track of what M stands for and it’s becoming a marketing gimmick. I guess now M stands for marketing.

People want fun M performance in a family friendly package. My teenagers are too tall to sit in the back of an M3 for any length of time. The X3M ticks the right boxes for many where M3 is just not practical.

It can be a true M car in the sense that it's hardcore, optimised for handling, extracting the most performance out of the platform. Just because it can't be as agile as a lighter lower M3 doesn't make it less of an M car. It's just in a different category.

Yeah, that's why all SUV are banned to participate in track days almost on all track

X3m - is like luxury version of X3 with good engine, not hardcore. For example, i bought this car for everyday use and super happy, if it would be hardcore car - i wouldn't buy it

It will be there next year. It wasn't available for this years' test.

Same thing happened with the M2C for 2018. Press cars weren't available in time.

I agree - I had three M3's, e36, e46 and e92. but I now need (want) an M car that will carry dog crates, go off road and in the snow.

there is no better way to test the performance of a M car than on a track.

X3M is a true M car, there is no question. Have you had a chance to drive one? Don’t look at the shape. It’s an absolute beast, especially >3000 rpm, and corners like a sports sedan. It doesn’t drive like an SUV, it’s essentially an M3 touring with a practical X3 body. Extremely fun to drive. Could not be happier with it and this comes from a guy who comes from a modded M4.

I am not disputing that it is a true M car… That’s why there should be a Nürburgring time and other track testing done.

I have driven one its the only all wheel drive car I have ever driven that can truly drift the back end out under power.

I'm sure M did plenty of track testing during development but would a published ring time do anything for you except for bragging rights? Would you have not gotten one if it had a slower ring time than, say, a Stelvio QF? Not trying to be an ass here, I'm just not sure what a ring time for this type of vehicle does for anyone... I guess the same can be said for most street cars, though.

M is supposed to be a performance car. The track time is a true test of the engine , brakes and handling. ( haven’t bought one yet boy it’s on order).
