Wider Tires X3MC...

I did a custom size tire search on Tire Rack and they have Pirelli Scorpion All-Season tires available in 265/40/21 for front and 295/40/21 for rear. Will these work with the stock wheels? Anyone gone wider tires yet on their X3MC?

I would think a slight increase would be OK.

In looking at the Pirelli sizing, there is a fairly large difference between a 265/40/21 and a 295/40/21. The difference is about 1 inch in diameter, 1.2 inches in width, and about 22 revs per mile which is a 22% difference (speedo error would be approx. 2 MPH @ 60 MPH. This tire is a Y rated tire (186 MPH). My personal opinion is that 1 inch in diameter (height) would be quite visually noticeable on the X3MC.

Michelin makes a 265/40/21 and a 275/40/21 in there Michelin Premier LTX which is an all-season tire. There is only about a .4 inch difference in both diameter and width and 8 revs per mile which is only about .8 MPH @ 60 MPH. However, it is only a V rated tire (149 MPH).

Here's an option I'm considering (with 12mm spacers)... Michelin PS4's 265f/285r

Anyone else looking at these?

Not sure what you'll gain going from the standard fit PS4S/CSC6 to PS4 both the standard fit tyres are higher spec than the PS4.

For many of us, the standard 255/265 setup is simply too narrow from an aesthetic standpoint... this is, after all, a competition M vehicle. The “standard” should have been 265/295, but I think they wanted to save weight (already 200 lbs. too heavy) and get faster 0-60/1/4 mile times with the thinner, lighter tires.) The vehicle demands a more aggressive stance! That’s what we’ll gain. (My M40i has wider rear tires, standard... unacceptable!)

There is a good chance the wider PS4 will underperform next to the PS4S/CSC6 I get going up a size in the same spec tyre (or better) but not going down in spec.

But I think you're saying you're happy with less performance/handling balance but better looks?

That is a major embarrassment for an M vehicle.

Thanks for posting your pics/tire setup. I'm likely going to go with the that tire setup. Did the tires come with TPMS for each or did you have to buy them separately? Where did you get the spacers and exhaust from?

TPMS is from stock wheels. Spacers and Eisenmann exhaust was from iND: https://ind-distribution.com

Would be interesting to see your X3MC's 1/4 mile performance with the wider tire set (as we're otherwise nearly identical in our builds except for your exhaust).

Indeed. Wider tires would provide more grip but also increase the friction.

I may just get these, but will wait to see how I like the look of the stock setup once I take delivery.

wondering why no one has mentioned 265/40-21 & 295/35-21 set up. It's almost identical overall rolling diameters compare to OE size and it's correct ratio.

The 295 is available in the MPS4S as well, if so you could re-use the current rears and put them on the fronts for this setup.

I'll do that in the spring if this setup works.

I did not think 265s would fit up front.

For sure it can. As matter of fact, the 265 will fit better than stock 255 judging from the slight stretch look the 255 has.

Possibly a dumb question - will you need wider rims to accommodate wider tires or can you put the wider tires on the stock rims??
