Seat belt...
Hey guys, I did a forum search.
Any way to stop the seat belt from chocking you out when you first start the car and begin to move? Coding? Super annoying, thank god I don't drive this car daily, but the wifey giving me an earful about it! Thanks!

Is it really that bothersome? Lasts what, less than a second? Guess that did not come up during a test drive...

I don’t get choked by the seat belt tensioner at all. just a slight pull and I must admit I like it! Makes you feel the car is getting you ready and safe for the M Power lol

I think of two "features" in previous cars that I could not stand: - Ford: Automatic seat belts which had an actuator located on the frame of the door opening. It would smack me in the head when I got out. Luckily this was not my car but was popular in the 90s. - Nissan: Front seat would move backwards when I opened the door to get out of the car. The motion was too slow so I would be getting out of the seat as it moved backwards. Thankfully I was able to have the dealer disable. Is the seat belt tensioner a first world problem? Yes. But it's an annoyance that I wish I could resolve and do not see any purpose to whatsoever. Also, what happens if you had an injury like a broken collar bone or just had surgery? I can't imagine it would feel too good. |

BMW been doing this for a while.
It had it in my 2016 F06 650GC. I actually like it since it pulls me back a little to be snugged to the seat. I noticed that it gets weaker after sometime. It has been discussed in some sub-forum that woman hates it because it boob grab them.

Yes, it is, and yes it did. She liked it too much not get it due to the seatbelt tug. Whats a big deal for some doesn't have to be for all.

I had it part of the Dynamic safety package in my F31.
You could code it out if you wanted, but I wouldn’t. It’s called the ‘Retractable reel’ or something similar in ISTA, I think if you did disable it it would disable it on all seatbelts too. |

In any case, I don't think it's all that painful and certainly doesn't choke the passenger...IMHO naturally. Best of luck. Sounds like you should be able to code it out via ESYS.

I was in my 7er last night and seen as how I don't even notice it these days I thought I'd watch out for it to see how anyone could/would be bothered by this feature, the tug/pull is trifling the pressure is that of putting your hand on your chest and lightly pushing your hand against it it's so gentle it's not true.
Now either the X3M is totally different (I'll find out tomorrow when I pick it up) but again I didn't notice anything on the test drive, me thinks this is much ado about nothing.....

I understood this Dynamic Safety /Active Protection system, that pre-tensions the seat after start-up was standard on M Performance vehicles?
I have a MY20 G05 M50d and it doesn't seem to do it. My wife has an MY18 7er and hers has it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I had the pre-tension in my M550i. It got a bit weaker over time and I rarely noticed it unless I was looking over my right shoulder (lifting my left shoulder off the seat) to back up, etc when it occurred.
It doesn't bother me but I understand how it could. But it is a useful safety feature as a lot of folks keep the belt too lose to be effective. Even more noticeable is the pre-tension when braking hard. When riding in an M5 comp at the BMW Performance Center, every time the driver would brake, it would tighten. After 2-3 laps, I couldn't breath and had to release and refasten the belt.
