What made you pick the X3M over the X4M or X4M over the X3M?
I'm curious what made people pick one over the other. What made you choose the X3M vs X4M or your X4M over the X3M?
I'll go first (I ordered an X3M) - I preferred the X3M "suv" type style vs the "hatchback" style of the X4M. - Less expensive with same performance - Felt as if the back would be cramped (based upon many online reviews) How about you? I'm curious as to people's preferences. |

Well it's odd because I always like a sloping roof-line on my cars so coupes or sportbacks is what I have always went with the past 5 cars. But I saw and test drove the X4M Comp and I felt I was missing part of the backseats/boot. Also wasn't too keen on the small spoiler at the top of the rear windshield it didn't "sweep" with the curves of the car.
Originally I was looking at the GLC Coupe namely the GLC63S Coupe and was pretty much set on it but the more I looked at the X3M Comp I thought....hang on am I just trying to kid myself I still like coupes and really I should go for an SUV style back end and get it out of my system. So.....ultimately I picked the X3M Comp due to those reasons which as above kinda went against everything I thought before about SUV looking vehicles but thought it's all or nothing here. |

Hey there. Well for me I chose the x4m for
It's unique looks. There is nothing else like it on the road and in black it's a looker. I love the suv Body style of the x3m but I just don't really need all that extra room. I'm 6 feet 2 and I have plenty room in the back seats and ample cargo room. I'd be happy with either car to be honest but there's a reason why the x6 is selling strong and started a trend that has been duplicated by other manufacturers. I'm coming from a sakhir orange m3 and white m4. I'll admit my X4m turns more heads and triggers curiosity more than those cars ever did. |

For me, because X4M doesn't look as good as X6 or X6M.
I tried so hard to like it, but I can't swallow it. The X6 / X6M are much2 more appealing.

I’m not sure why the X6 body style is so much more appealing to me. Seems like the same car but bigger? |

Easy, we liked the look of the X3M much more than the X4M.

Storage and rear seat head room were high on the list. I’ve always been an suv guy or a sedan guy, never really took to the SAC body style. Different strokes for different folks. Mainly I like the feel of a bigger cabin. The x4 felt cramped. On the other hand my wife prefers the x4m over the x3m. She don’t drive it...so I get to pick...lol

It's good to have options! since people like different things.
X4 over X3 - More unique. It's different - More sporty in terms of sleeker look - Don't need the real SUV room since we have a GL550 in the family If BMW makes a M wagon in the same size category we will not have this conversation... Not a fan of the new X6 at all. Styling is so busy. |

Moreover, if you look at the production number ratio & the amount of cars at the dealers between X3M/X4M clearly X4M is a more focused product for those who wants to be different. I can't imagine who's looking for a family SUV that buys X4M instead of X3M. But on the other hand for someone that wants more character but don't want a M3/4, X4M is the way to go.

I thought the exact same thing about the X6 and as hard as I tried to like the X4, I couldn't. It is better looking than the previous generation, but it's not there yet for me. Plus, I have a family and the rear headroom, or lack thereof, was a deal killer for me. I sat in the back and felt claustrophobic. The X3, especially with the sunroof shade open, feels enormous in the back. That sealed the deal for me.

I actually don't really like SUV's and swore I'd never buy one, citing that an estate is a better option.
However I've always had a soft spot for the X6 and I quite like the GLE63S. What turned it for me was the amazing deals for the X3M and X4M in the UK. I drove the X4M in the test drive and thought the lines of the X3M just looked better. I also thought it was an easier sale to my wife as it’s more practical. Now I’ve actually convinced myself that the X3M is an estate M3! Will I buy another SUV? Well I can never say never, but I would still prefer a high powered estate. SUV’s come with 3 major negatives for me high centre of gravity and increased running costs (tyres, brakes, fuel). I love the X3M but had I been able to get an M3 Touring (doesn’t exist) or an RS5 Avant fo the same money I’d have probably done that. Back to the main point, the X3M just looks a little more resolved to me, and I didn’t want to sacrifice practicality for what I perceived as no gain.

The X3MC is my first SUV. My other family members also drives X3’s. my original car was a G30 5 series which is a great car. i wasn’t in the market for a X3 comp I looked at a new X5 550d instead. I really wanted the M5 comp but again my other half said no way we are having the same car when we needed more space! Ok she didn’t like the size of X5 I wanted power so I decided to test drive the X3 comp which is a perfect compromise. what is more surprising is my wife liked the x3mc more than I did lol her test drives are more of the practical sense like driving to car park to reverse park measuring the boot space for the pram etc.. women’s needs are different when they drive the family car time to time.
ok my point is I never liked the X4 as the Americans call it a SAC sports activity coupe imho I don’t understand them. As my other half said when she sat in a X4 why did does BMW make a car that is a SUV that is not a SUV with less head room less boot space looks more dark inside with a small rear window that is a coupe and high driving position... as I said earlier women think practically when it comes to cars and imho SUV should be a SUV. |
