M40D UK aftermarket towbar
Hi Guys new on here as just purchased a 2019 X3 M40D that I want to use to tow a caravan.
Can anyone recommend a towbar fitter, for a detachable towbar that does not require the rare bumper cutting. Anyone else use the M40D for Caravanning Thanks in advance. |

I will be going for a Tow Trust, I understand only the panel underneath has to be cut to allow the ball to slot in but not the bumper. The fitting instructions are on the Tow Trust website. I’ve been recommended a fitter but it’s in Aberdeen. I have the 2.0d M Sport, not sure if that will make a difference.

Yes, it is Mototech. Are you pleased with his work? I was also going to get him to fit my dashcam, removed from my previous car. I’m out near Banchory.

I had a Tow Trust detachable with 7 PIN electrics and BMW specific harness fitted, £490 inc VAT. Very pleased with quality, small cut out in under tray (not the bumper) to allow the electric plug to swing down and the tow hitch to clip into place. No sign of having a tow hitch fitted when not in use. Took the fitter about 3 hours to install.

yeah, he is good. I imagine he would even come out to Banchory for a decent size job......mind you, would help if you had a garage for him to work in at this time of the year.

I like the look of the Tow trust towbar, looks like it’s available fitted from Towbar express. Anyone used towbar express, they come to your home to fit. Looking on the tow trust website fitting instructions it looks straight forward enough. No need to cut the bumper.

I've always bought from PF Jones, and they are also able to recommend installers in your area:
