Alignment with IAS - Dealer only?
Got my 2019 50i in Sept, it has integral active steering / air suspension.
This is my 5th BMW, and with all, the BMW dealership always says that you should only have alignment done at the dealership as there are “very specific specs” that only they know.... now I know that is BS and have had all my other bimmers aligned at local shops. With the IAS, I’m curious if anyone has had alignment outside of BMW dealerships... and if you have had it done at BMW, how much did it cost? My last car was the x5m... and that was quoted at $299 at BMW, I am nervous that this IAS requires me to go to BMW. Help! Thank you! |

I would also be interested in knowing this. Waiting on an X5 with ias.
I have noticed that the tracking on the G series worse than previous F series. I had a G30 which needed alignment, my mothers G01 x3 had badly uneven wear and needed alignment, nearly bald on outside and ~4mm on inside all round at last tyre change. I had 2x F10 before the G30 and while i got alignment done when changing tyres they were never really much out of alignment. Same for the previous 2x F25 x3's |

I went to the dealership and they were going to charge me $299. Ridiculous! I paid, however, $199 because it says that’s the cost when you book the appointment online.
Anxious for a cheaper option! |

No need for dealer. Alignment is not easy especially with the rear turning option. But a decent shop with the right equipment still charged me a 100.

Wheel Alignment
I am struggling with my one at the moment but getting close.
From experience of X3 Ownership it has to be done 2-3 times in a row with try and drive before its correct. A lot of dealers won't do this and they'll get frustrated. Most of the alignment is in the front toe and normally rear is correct. What I've done was to aligned the car correctly in a garage that I can actually do it myself and then EPS needs to perform Reset - EPS Start up in order to calibrate the sensor (including torque). Problem is that most Diagnostic SW do this but fail to finish therefore I tempt to come back to my dealer to reset the check control on the steering |
