Vacuum Lines
Howdy
So in the process of replacing my OFHG today, I ripped one of the two vacuum lines that lead to the... booster(?). Basically the line right in front of the air box. I was able to sort of recover, cutting the ripped part off and slipping 3/4 onto the nipple. Is it safe to drive? I know that I need to replace those two lines now, but I’m not sure how urgent it really is. Also the “Service Engine Soon” light comes on only is the run(?) position. Not when the car is actually running, but when I turn the electric on. Also are there any recommendations on what type to replace it with? Diameter? The OEM is apparently some sort of fabric over a rubber tubing. Thanks. Last edited by Peter5498; 01-29-2020 at 04:17 PM.. |

Those are the boost control lines. You can't boost if they're bad, but more importantly, if they're really bad your brake booster may not work.
You REALLY need to pull that code before driving. After an OFHG job, it could be many things, some serious. |

In the meantime does anyone have a P/N for some tubing/line? Not particularly sure what to search for on FCPEuro for it.
Also I tried pulling the code with the drivers screen. No joy but the light could possibly always be on in the non-running position and I just never noticed. Last edited by Peter5498; 01-29-2020 at 05:23 PM.. |

Take a piece of vacuum line and go into any parts store. The stuff is sold by the foot, or inch, or centimeter.
There's no magic to vacuum line, unless the stuff you have is required to be preformed. |

$1 vacuum hose is great for short term. The proper lines should be installed when feasible.

Just replace them with platinum cured lines. You'll want about 20'.

So I ordered these after watching BMW Fanatic on Youtube:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...pe-13717558227 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...pe-11657565963 I don’t even know if one of each is what I need. The lines look identical if I’m honest but maybe I’m wrong. He listed those so I took the bait. I’m a noob and not really all that familiar with these lines. Spent $85 on the OEM. Autozone said that they have 4mm line, but I’ve also read that 3.5mm is the requirement on other forum posts. Maybe I should cancel that order and just order some 3.5mm stuff online? Opinions? Also while doing my OFHG the line ripped, isn’t really hanging on, and doesn’t seem like it’s affected anything. Then again, I drove it 1/2 mile down the road at a slow pace because my belt is still in need of attention. |
