Flashed Bootmod3 Tonight 😎

FYI, I took the plunge tonight and flashed Bootmod3 to my new-to-me 540xi M-Sport. Part of me thought I was crazy, since the stock B58 already pulls harder than any stock engine I’ve ever had. But I’ve heard so much goodness about this tune and the potential it unleashes in the B58. So I went ahead and flashed the 91 octane stage 1 tune and....OMG!! My first trip around the block I actually giggled. This thing pulls like there’s no tomorrow but also seems smooth as silk considering the gobs of power it’s delivering. Can’t wait to put it through its paces in more depth tomorrow.

I’d love to hear experiences of any other BM3 users out there. I’m pretty excited about this thing.

I went from MPPSK to BM3 Stage1 91Oct a few months ago.
What I love about it most is it's really very smooth, no weird / jerky shifts, no hesitation in power delivery. I am very happy with it.

As for performance , it's not a night and day difference after MPPSK but added power is easily felt. Car is noticeably faster and stronger in every rpm. Much more fun to drive now.

Stage 2 93Oct must be crazy fun but I have no intention to install a new downpipe and I don't have access to high quality gas.

I’m curious if you’ve messed with burble settings at all? I’ve read some concerns about burbles on stage 1 being a problem, but I’d love some additional sound.

I kept burbles and cold start oem.
My oem tune is mppsk and i did not want to change neither the cold start nor the burbles as they were just right for me, didn't want to mess with them

A couple of days on BM3 and I’m just loving it! My car is ridiculously fast and I’m just on the 91 octane stage 1 tune. Can’t imagine what stage 2 and beyond are like.

Only issue is that I’m getting a “unable to determine status” message in the oil section under “Vehicle Status”. Any ideas how to get rid of this? I’ve run Bimmerlink tool but there doesn’t seem to be any way to fix this.

I had the same issue. I contacted the folks over a BM3 (use their website to open a support ticket) and they took care of me. Took about an hour via remote coding. Not sure exactly what they did exactly, but all is well now.

I have bm3 on my 540i as well. I recommend leaving the burble settings on ots and getting a muffler delete! Sounds amazing with very little drone at low rpm. Will try to post a video later.

Did you delete resonators as well?

I had the resonator delete first and it did not make a noticeable difference so I put the resonator back on and removed the mufflers. It sounds awesome, especially the upshifts and WOL. The pops sound like bangs and louder than my m3 competition I had before this car.

This is the startup with GTS start coded.

This is a quick exhaust clip from the first day I got the tune. Me and my friends were really surprised how good it sounds.

So I spent an hour and a half online with BM3 support today but they couldn’t resolve it. They wanted to keep trying but I ran out of time, so I think I’m just going to flash back to stock and take it to the dealer. 😞

When do you do a resonator delete you MUST force the valve open. If not, it only opens under hard acceleration.

So, the dealer kept the car for two days trying to resolve this error and finally had to reprogram everything to make the error go away. (And they did question me about whether I’d loaded performance software on the car.) So with the error finally gone, tonight I reflashed Bootmod3 stage 1 and within 15 minutes the dreaded error message returned. “Unable to determine status” of oil.

Sorry to hear that. I want to install BM3 on mine as well. Let us know how it works out.

The good news is that they are VERY responsive on support tickets and seem confident they can solve this with some remote coding. So we’ll take another crack at it on Monday and see if we can permanently fix. I love all other aspects of the tune, but obviously can’t live this chronic error, especially since it seems to tip off the dealer that I’d loaded a tune.

Just a follow up on my “unable to determine status” error message in the oil settings. Bootmod3 support remotely fixed this in its entirety. I’m blown away by the effort they applied to solve this for me. It took a little doing, but they were totally committed to resolving it. Incredible customer service!!!

See! Told ya they would get it done! It took them about 1 hour or so to fix it on my car...how long did it take for you? When they remoted into my laptop, it didn't seem like they were doing anything at all (at least that I could see on the screen), so I have no idea what they really did. But, when I asked, they said they had to "fix some coding" for the DME. Presumably that's what they did to fix it?

Now I wonder if a particular DME software version is causing this issue...? What I-Step level is your car at? I got a MY2018 540i which has a manufacturing date of 2017/11 and I-Step level 17-11-540.
