Transmission Fluid Additive

So according to the service bulletin I found on another post regarding torque converter shuddering, it states to use a top treat (#83-22-2-161-756 GM6 Top-Treat Tcc 832514). However, this part has been discontinued when they stopped using GM6. Does anybody know of a substitute that I could use to help eliminate my shuddering.

I've attached the bulletin that describes the problem I am having perfectly, hoping to resolve this when I do a fluid change soon.

Thanks!

There have been many cases where Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Multi-vehicle ATF has fixed shudder and delayed shifts in these GM automatics. I run it in my own 328i and it does shift smoother. It has a slightly thicker viscosity over the Dex VI that is the OEM fluid in GM transmissions.

I haven't used this myself but heard of people using it on the zf6hp16 that had the shudder problem with success (the zf had lifeguard 1 additive but you can't get that anymore either).. It also has some good reviews...

Thanks for the replies. Gonna order that shudder fixx stuff off amazon, looks to have some potential. I've already placed my order for some Dex VI, otherwise I may have explored the Valvoline MaxLife.

Valvoline Maxlife works well in my 6L45.

Good to hear BMW got rid of this PoS 6L45!

Update: Finally got around to doing a transmission fluid and filter change. I used OEM TF and two bottles of the Lubegard 19610 Instant Shudder. Car is shifting like a dream now. So far in my 10 mile test drive, the shudder has been completely eliminated. I'm super happy with the results. Thanks for the help!

That Shudder fix stuff works like magic... I also run it in my car, so far I have found that I needed to re-add 1 tube after approximately 2 years normal of use as the shudder returned slightly. After adding 1 additional tube its again gone and working smoothly as can be.

I was able to acquire two bottles of the top treat Bmw stuff. Check your local dealer as they might have old stock on the shelf.

Sorry to dig this up haha but how did you add it? (I know sounds dumb) Do you add it directly into the film plug or do you mix in the TF and pump it in mixed?

**Fill plug*

I haven’t done this myself but adding it directly or pre-mixing it will have the same result, so long as your trans is filled correctly in the end. It’ll all mix together regardless.

Yeah I just unscrewed the fill plug and poured it right in there.

Other may have different experiences but I ended up having to purchase these low profile sockets to be able to get the fill plug off. It was super tight for me and took a lot of leverage/muscle to pop it open. Hopefully yours is easier.

When I got the car not too long ago I did a trans fluid change (only fluid though, stupid me) so it should be fine. I still have the shudder and it’s getting slightly worse so this weekend I plan on doing filter/max life/lubeguard hopefully it takes care of it haha

Lubeguard Dr Shudder is magical friction additive.

Quantity is a bit of a mystery but I have 2 2oz in our GM unit and smooth as silk after a distinctive shudder.
