E90 328i engine swap options

Hello long lost forum friends. I joined here years ago when I had my n55 335xi and now a new project brings me back. I have acquired a mess of a 2007 328i that I am looking to engine swap.

disclaimers: I know its not the best platform to start on but the car was FREE and I want to do something really cool with it. The car does not need to retain any functionality with creature comforts or electronics other than the essentials to keep it street legal. The interior is getting gutted for the most part. I'm fine running a stand alone system like the holley units for an LS if thats the easiest way to go.

Now that thats out of the way, I'm turning to you trusted keyboard warriors for your insight on what you think would be a worthy swap. Junk yard LS and coyote are first to mind but I really want to keep it as simple as possible which has me leaning towards a junkyard LS, ebay turbo, and boost it to the moon. 400whp+++ is the minimum I am shooting for.

Minimal fab work is ideal. I will be doing a bunch of other stuff on the car myself but the swap is going to have to be undertaken by a shop. It will see the drag strip, the track, maybe even drift a little. I don't particularly care if its great at anything as long as its rowdy as hell.

If this shit pile of a car was yours, what would you swap in it?

nothing wrong with it mechanically, it sat in a field with the windows down for about a year though. it was also full of mcdonalds, taco bell, and all kinds of other nasty stuff. There is pretty much a small self sustaining ecosystem inside the car at this point. it also has body damage on pretty much every panel. It belonged to a family I'm very close with and was very much neglected

Junkyard 5.3, you can buy swap kits online pretty cheap unless you are fabbing everything:

I wonder what all will be needed besides the things they make. I'm new to all this but I'm going to take on as much as I possibly can myself and source all the parts to minimize shop hours.

I've seen that site before, I have it pinned!

Hellcat would be dope but is about 20x the cost of a junkyard ls haha

Stick an LS in there and have a look at sloppy mechanics turbo builds.
