How can I check rear suspension?

My car is 62k miles now and I would like to check rear suspension. So far I have replaced only rear struts and mounts, but I don’t know the health of the other components.

My question is if the rear suspension can be checked for play the same way I check the front. Pull/push each side at a time 3-9 and 6-12 o’clock? I know that rear suspension is more complex so maybe you guys can give me some help.

Thanks

Easiest way to check is drive over a pothole or bump and if it sounds like the world is going to end ur shocks are done.

With Run Flat tires doing this over a pot hole is often
just a symptom of having run flat tires.

With only 62K miles on your car, I'd be willing to bet that the only thing that's really worn out are the shocks.

You can pull a shock off and see if you can compress it by hand. It's not all that difficult.

Did anyone actually read his question? Shocks have been replaced.

As for the bushings, there's not an easy test like the front-end, but yanking on the wheel to see if there is play and then doing a visual inspection of the rubber is about as close as you can get. You can also do some spirited driving and see if, when you put the power down still in a turn, the rear end moves around a lot. The problem is that there are a lot of components that could be the culprit.

Here's a diagram for my '08 335i sport package (you can enter the details of your car into realoem.com to verify fitment). The 3 'control arms' (# 14, 18, and 19) are fairly easy to replace so you might want to start with looking at those first.

This is the Internet. I tell you what I think regardless of the question.

Just wonder how about the fronts? The MacPherson setup should mean shorter life than the rear shock absorber setup.

Just passed 387,000 miles this week on Tuesday. My car daily sees a lot of fast back country road driving. But to check, physically put eyes on the bushings. If the rubber is cracked then replacement is due at some point. BMWs do not need new suspension bushings as often as everyone thinks.

Thanks to all. I will jack up the rear and inspect the components visually, since all front suspension components have been replaced with Lemforder. If everything is fine, it means that e90 suspension is a crap thing on bad/uneven roads.
My former Mazda 3 was much more comfortable and also had sporty feel. E90, on flat surfaces is wonderfull, but in town is terrible, and feels unsafe to drive.

I'm running non-rft tires. Maybe I need a set of 4 runflats following the factory recommendations, in order to feel the car more solid/planted.
