What is the best BMW platform, new or old, you can buy today?
Excluding the e90 generation 3 series
Obviously the mix of digital and analog is perfect on the e90 platform, but what other BMW platforms are worth buying? E36? E60? E46? E38? As you can see, my knowledge is a bit dated. Don’t even know what the newer platforms are called, G something? Might as well get a Hyundai, they all look the same now. |

You really just like starting shit lol.
Funny enough though the new Hyundai's actually look (and likely more fun to drive) better than the new 3 series. Most of us are going to say E9X because thats what we bought. New enough to have necessary features but still old enough to drive well. Beyond that the E30 is classic and still drives well for that old school or weekend toy vibe. (typical I know), but close runner ups would be the E34 (M5) or the E24 (635) for me the E82 is the 2 door E9X |

E36, E46, or E92 M3 or E39 M5 depending on what your end game is. I always loved e38's too. My ideal build would be an E39 touring with an S62 or S65, 6 speed, and a modernized interior, or basically the same build in an e38 shorty sport.

I've owned all the 3-series from the E30 to the E92. And besides the E92, I think the E30 is the best. It's light and is always amazing to drive. If your a person who likes to drive without any of the tech that modern cars have then the E30 is perfect. It doesn't intervene with you as you drive. The steering gives great feedback and every shift is rewarding. It may not be fast in a straight line, but it's fun. I also take mine auto crossing and it's a blast.

E39 are really nice, especially if you can find a m sport. Only thing now is most of them have high miles. I have e70 and I love the way it drives, 2013 3.5 xdrive

I love the e9x M3 because it combines old school power with new school tech. Other platforms are the e30 models along with the new f series b58 cars.

E21 323i sport with a dog leg box, lsd and 185/60/13 square set up.
My first BMW and still my favourite after working my way up to an E91. EPAS and turbo's aren't in my future yet. |

Best is dependent on what you want:
Power: N54, N55 N/A fun commuter: N52 E90, M54 E39, N52 1series Analog driver's car: E30, E36 M3, E34 M5 I love the E46 as well (the E46 ZHP is still one of my favorites to drive) but the sub frame cracking issue is annoying to deal with.

Love my E82. Was supposed to be my year round car, but I enjoy it so much, made it my summer only car. Picked up an E90 328 old man sedan for winter flogging.

F97/98... the S58 is a monster! (yes, I'm slightly biased.)

Great thread! I daily'd the E36 M3 for 15 years and loved every minute of it. The E90 was a pretty great car to move to for the daily no doubt

Count another vote for the e30 here. I love my e92, but it doesn't compare to the e30 in sheer fun factor. The platform is so light with just the right amount of power, that you can just throw it into corners and it feels like it's on rails. And in the event that the back gets squirrelly or kicks out, the chassis is so well balanced that it never really feels out of control. |

It still makes the car boring to me if it lacks acceleration so in turn yes it makes the car boring.
