Crankshaft rear seal leak

Looks like my 2011 328i has a rear crankshaft seal that's leaking.

Has anyone replaced this without using the recommended tool by BMW?

ECS is selling a tool for $110.00 which I think is a bit steep for a one time use.

Removal just use #6 wood screws and two pliers. Reinstall using 4" x 2" DWV PVC Reducer Fitting D102-420, which is a plumbing waste line PVC reducer.

You can rent the tool.

I would strongly suggest that you use Ultra Grey for the sealant instead of the BMW sealant.

So I got the Loctite sealant but there's no needles included. I talked to a sales rep at ECS before ordering and he said the needle was included/integrated.

It seems to me when looking at the Loctite sealant that there's no needle whatsoever?

Am I missing something?

BTW, I called ECS back after receiving the order and they are suppose to get back to me later on today or tomorrow.

I had already ordered Loctite from ECS when I saw your post. It looks like I am going to return it.

Thanks for your suggestion about the ultra grey. Is this the correct item?

If so, I assume you have used it for the crankshaft seal?

How do you inject the sealant?

Do I need the recommended primer by BMW if I go with the ultra grey?

Thanks

Matt

No. You don't need primer if you go with Ultra Grey.

Just let it sit for 24 hours so the Ultra Grey to fully cure

Yes, but not a 12 pack. You just need 1 tube
