Egr cleaning?
Hi,
About 2 years ago I was having the eml come on the car, I read the codes through inpa and had a few relating to egr faults, I decided to buy a 2nd hand one cheap for £25 on Ebay and light went off for over a year, The light came back on a couple of months back so did the same and all faults cleared, Question is, is there anything I can do the the old egr and keep it as a spare in readiness for next time?? Car has just turned 150K on an 08 plate . Many thanks in advance, I think I have attached a photo of the egr valve that I have changed for reference |

Yep. Remove the black cover at the very top of your photo (it unclips and slides up). Inside there you can actually manipulate the egr valve.
I'd clean and lubricate that mechanism as much as possible. If that makes it operate nice and freely, I'd be tempted to leave it at that...but you should really remove the 2 bolts which attach the whole servo/valve the the main body of the cooler, and clean/inspect the other side of the valve too. I cleaned my partner's one recently, and it was absolutely fine inside. The issue was that the slider was really dry and would jam up. Chances are you can get the one currently on the car to free up fine just by removing the black cover, cleaning and lubricating. There's a test procedure in ISTA D for it; it'll run the engine at 2000rpm and actuate the egr valve repeatedly to check operation. |

Thanks for the reply,
Very helpful to know, I did as you suggested and removed the whole thing and it was fairly clean inside, Would be interested to know how to activate it through INPA. Never seen that on there. Many thanks for reply. |
