Taillight Tint

Has anyone done the tint on the taillights? I think it'd look rlly good on the G20. This youtuber did it on his G20 and I was rlly impressed with his results.

On amazon I found some taillight tint film: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1KRMQZ..._H6jxEbXGHHRM9
I don't know whether I should go for the smoked or dark black option though. I'll attach a pic of a Merc w the tints doesn't you guys can compare. Which looks better in ur opinion?

I know this topic is old, but i've been thinking about this for a bit. Did you tint just the red portion of the tail lights or the white backup lights as well? I'm tempted to get it in the lightest smoke colored PPF (because i don't want it to actually be black, just more smoked).

Thanks!

Lol I was just thinking about this. Whether the red portion would be enough since the white part looks tinted as is.

And bam. This thread was on top when I logged in

Looking at the video above it seems like it’s just the red portion. Going to inquire with the shop I went to for my PPF what it would cost for xpel 50 or 35.

Just watched the video again and he did only tint the L part.

I wish I had decent tint guys near me. The closest is at least 1.5 hrs away.

Just FYI I would not consider this a DIY job for even intermediate skill level.

I just wasted 2 hours trying to wrap the taillight- the shape is rather complex and much more difficult than other taillights I have done in the past. At least for me it was too much

I recommend a pro for this

Yup. I thought I'd do a DIY by removing the tail lamps and doing them inside the house or something. But removing it itself seems like a little out of my comfort zone. I'll be asking a few places tomorrow hopefully regarding cost to tint tail lights. If it isn't too bad, I'll let the pros do it. Or else, I'll have to stick with the red.

It’s cheap. Was quoted 115-150 for either Stek dynosmoke or Xpel smoke 35. I wanted closer to 50% though so will look at then and see.

Ah. That's not too expensive. I was googling tail light tints in IL and apparently there's a new law here that doesn't allow it anymore. Passed in 2020.

Hehe yup. My neighbor is a cop. I’ll ask him and see how strict they are. I know they don’t care about not having a front license plate unless they really need to make up their quota. I hope it’s the same with regards to tinting.

Peeling in less than a day? Not good at all, I'd be asking to have it sorted or fixed FOC.

I went to tint my tailights and the guy said the tailight shape is too hard to tint and it will start peeling and said not to tint them as its a waste of money. How have they held up for you?
