2011 335xi Body Control Module Unit "cooked"

Hello,

I have a 2011 E90 and was driving two weeks ago and got an "Electrical System Fault" notification. The notification was on my screen for all of 15 seconds then all the screens went dark, and the car went into Limp mode. I got the car towed to a shop, and after a week they said it was the BCMU, and it was "cooked". They replaced it the module, I drove it for a few days, then the car sat for a few days, then yesterday the exact same thing happened all over again with the fault. I was curious if anyone else has experienced this, what the real problem could be and/or what could be destroying the BCMU.

Additionally, I am scheduled to take it back to the same shop tomorrow. However, the car has stranded me in Cincinnati, and the shop is in Columbus about 100 miles away. Is it safe to drive the car in Limp mode back to Columbus?

Thank you!
