What is this above my rear LP? *PIC*

I just bought this 2011 328 E92. I can't figure out what this black thing is above the rear LP. It has a wire running to it from one of the LP lights. There is an Escort radar detector hardwired to the car that doesn't work, so my guess was it's part of that, but that's only because I can't think of anything else it would be. Help?
