Searching For A Part - Dowel Pin - Image Within
Hey Folks,
I've had quite a few older BMWs, and they always came with something called a "Dowel Pin" which was used to change wheels. It was used so that the final lug bolt didn't have to bear the weight of the wheel and so that you could align the lugs and holes. Well apparently our 2's don't come with one, and the parts department at my dealer was clueless about them. Does anyone know if they make these anymore for our vehicles? Regards, John |

I haven't seen them since the E39. The E46 has a place in the tool kit for one but didn't come with one. Of course, no designated spot for one in the 2er.
The part is: alignment pin - 71111093774; ~$25 from the dealer

Unfortunately that alignment pin is for older cars with M12 wheel bolts, all current cars now use M14 wheel bolts so that pin won’t stay in the bolt hole snugly.

Get a bright silver one.
I have a few different ones, and the black ones are more difficult to line up because you can't see them. Also, ones with lighter knurling on them will do less filing of your wheels as you pull them on/off. |
