M340i in for service? What vehicle were you given as a loaner?

As the subject states... what loaners are everyone receiving?

Curious at what calibre dealers/service view the m340i.

Tried the search function, only found a thread on M5. Sorry if I missed it!

It's normally 330i unless I specifically ask if there's any other vehicles.

I had the chance to loan a Z4 sDrive30i and 530i, but it was because I asked. I don't think they would have defaulted to that though.

When I took my 330i in I got a G20 330i loaner. You need to make an appt 3-4 weeks in advance to even get a loaner at my dealer.

I haven't given the 330i yet but when I gave the X3, I got cars that were a class above at least (440i, 430i, X5, 535i). The closest dealer to me has/had some good loaner cars.

I wonder if it's dealer specific in that case...?

Probably. Also depends on if you have a good relationship with a specific SA there. I always ask for the same specific SA and he probably hooks me up with good loaners?

In most cases, you will get anything up to a 5 series. The 3 series is their standard car, M340i included. Same for 2 series and the X1-6.

We've dealt with 3 dealers over the years. My experience with our current dealer (the best of the three) for both my m240i vert and my wife's F30 328 is that you get what they have available. These days, that's usually (but not always) an X1 or X3.

The first dealer we used to go to (before the nearer one opened) would sometimes do the "loan them something a step up from what they have so maybe they will want to upgrade" thing. But they would also put you in a rental Toyota from Enterprise sometimes.

The middle dealer, we don't talk about, for reasons having nothing to do with loaner cars.

I got a Nissan Altima rental. Worse car I have ever had the misfortune to drive in a decade. Another reason why I dread having to leave my car at the dealership. I could try another dealer but this one is less than five miles away so there's that convenience aspect.

One thing I forgot to mention was I recall the loaner car receptionist saying a disclaimer to another person with 320i requesting 530i is that there is a chance the insurance company may not cover damages when the loaner vehicle is much higher value or different tier than the car in service.

It's possible they want to avoid a scenario where a damage occurs and the customer may not be financially capable to cover the repairs when insurance denies the claim.

it is dealer specific.

The closest dealer to me santa monica bmw, won't give you a loaner for routine service unless you bought your car there or so they told me when I took my 328 there years ago. They give no loaner at all in that case. Which is BS (I only found this out from an oil change and just didnt take a car....)

The dealership is small and terrible and doesn't give very good deals on cars too. The 2 next closests dealers around it are much better with loaners. The dealer I bought my car from once gave me a 535 for a 328, though they told me generally they do not give a "higher line" car than what you currently drive.

Can anyone match this....I had an issue with my F34 328GT that the dealer hadn't been brilliant at sorting.....I eventually engaged direct with the Managing Director who was brilliant in getting it all resolved. They needed the car for two weeks and somewhat cheekily asked for an 8 Series loaner......imagine my surprise when I got an email offering me an 850 convertible or an i8!!

I took the 850 as I needed to get the golf clubs in....although it only just about managed that!

Back in my Lexus days, there was a time when they had recalled a large number of cars and everyone was requesting loaners. So I got stuck with a ford focus. The interior looked like I was sitting inside a decepticon (and not in a good way). It wasn't a terrible car to drive, I think a base Altima is a much bigger offender in that regard. But man that interior was hideous.

Haha, I see guys here complaining about their G20, if only they would drive an Altima they would appreciate how great a car the 3'er is. After being subjected to drive the Altima for two days that seemed like an eternity; getting back into my car was a euphoric experience.

I get an M Sport 330i whenever I've brought my 335i in for oil changes but have also been given X3's, X5's, and a 5 series. If it's not peak operating season I can usually have my pick from their lot of loaners which is pretty cool!
