For those who want to turbo a n52 engine don't listen to the hate
I love this channel because he has some great content for the f30 335i but he has just made a video about a n52 with a turbo. I don't have a 328i anymore but when I did I hated when people would say it's not worth it because putting a turbo on this car is a pretty nice accomplishment for those who love their n52 powered bmw! And sorry if I didn't post this is the n52 sub forum I figured it would get more attention here !

Looks and sounds mint!
On the topic of turbo-ing the N52...there's no mechanical reason why it's a bad idea; it just seems like most who ask the question are considering it for cost reasons, in which case getting a 335i instead is a no-brainer...hence people getting a bit enthusiastic recommending the 35 route instead. If the question was asked more often as a fun/character-building experiment on a spare car for a laugh (rather than outright HP), then I'm sure the general response would be a lot more positive. Fair play to anyone who takes on a build like this and makes it work |

Of course, but there's nothing specific which stops the n52 from functioning when turbocharged - that's my point. Of course it will be a bigger compromise than the 35i, but as per my previous post, that's part of doing a build like that; just more hurdles and problems to overcome...part of the 'fun'

It's not about hate; it's about love. Some people just love the N52 because it is a great naturally aspirated in-line-six from BMW. I'm in that camp. Adding a turbo to any in-line-six changes the nature of it, which is fine if that is what you like. BMW made a turbo in-line-six for those people who like them.
Not really hard to understand.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Which is very acceptable in 2020. n54 is OEM built to hold 600bhp. not the same range at all. |
