Tires

So last year I got Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 255 35 r18 and 225 40 r18
How long should these usually last? and I just did 4 autox events in them two being in the rain and I drive spiritedly every weekend. Also could I up my side wall to rear 40 and front 45? Will it mess up my handling or speedometer to? I want thick sidewalls for some reason. The vehicle is a 2009 lci 328i!

for a 328i do you think Michelin pilot super sports or the 4s is overkill for a 328i even if the chassis is excellent?

I do not carry a spare, the tires are awesome! I use to have Hankook ventus v12 evo 2s and the way I drive every year I had to change them. So two years two sets of ventus v12 evo 2s! Then I decided to drop $900 on these pilot sport as3+. The comfort and ride is much different and grip also. These are also more quieter and meatier in the looks department. 265 hankooks looked like 255 Michelin. i have done 4 autox and countless mornings spent in the mountains. Its been a year and its holding up awesome. Also because of the autox days the thread is also starting to have heat bubbles or those burn marks. Is it bad that it heated up that much and is still usable? My evo 2s did that at the track but that was the The roval. ANyone chime in pleaze!

How's the tread wear? What's your back up plan, in case you get a flat? I'm in the NYC tristate area. Thanks.

Im in Los Angeles, if i get a flat im going to call AAA LOL. I thought of a spare but that tire flying around the trunk when im taking hard corners is gonna be annoying yet catastrophic for my trunk. The noise of it banging must be annoying when your driving fast. I gotta measure the thread wear havnt done that yet. I also got a alignment right away once these tires were installed so it was pretty much 0 miles with new alignment.

This is an impossible thing for us to guess especially when doing autocross events.

Obviously the more autocross events you do the less life those tires will have I would be surprised if you get half the "warranty" tread life that comes with the tires from Michelin.

Noe keeping in mind these are not designed for Autocross events at all they are just a sporty all season I'm sure they won't hold up very well with the high heat that performance driving requires.

good luck!

I ran Pilot SS as my last set, before putting on PS4S now.

They will definitely be better than the A/S tired you have now - for grip as well as noise/ride.

I got around 30k out of the SS, and that included some canyon running.

I definitely don't think that putting the best tired possible on a 328 is a misguided idea.

Tires are the undisputed best upgrade for handling and autocross especially is all about handling. Once you do track events the tire life expectancy goes out the window tho.

2011 328 withMSport.

Same size tires as OP. (18's)

I don't drift or accelerate like a teenager, but the car does see significant lateral g's on a regular basis.

Rears ran thin long before the fronts, but I swapped all at the same time. Fronts showed moderate wear on the outside shoulder, but was fine middle/inner.

My son & I autocrossed it several times with the SS's, but the lot we use (Z-Max drag strip) is easier on tires than any other I've seen.

Wow nice. So 225 and 255! Does the supersports look more thicker and meatier also on the stock rims?

Yes. I ran 15mm spacers with the original Bridgestone. Had to pull them when I switched to the SS due to rubbing when passengers in back seats.
