E92 335i exhaust tips
Some sources ([other] BMW Forums, YouTube and Google) say that to remove the stock 335ix exhaust tips from a factory 335ix exhaust system all you need to do is "just cut 'em off and weld on some new factory/aftermarket tips". I'm not a fan of of cutting off anything . The other way thay is mentioned is to " hit the end of the exhaust tips with a mallet to free it up, twist the tip and then just pull the tip off".
Has anyone here actually done tip removal on a 2009 E92 335ix? The previous owner of my car thought that sandpaper would help make cleaning his exhaust tips a walk in the park . While they don't jump out and grab you by the throat they don't belong on one of my cars. |

So, if I'm reading this properly you want us to give you some way to remove WELDED on exhaust tips without having to cut them off?
I hear there are a few types of acid that will eat metal, maybe you can try soaking them in that? lol! |

I can't be trusted with a hack saw let alone acid .
You did answer my question though. You're telling me that the exhaust tips on a stock 2009 335i E92 are actually welded on and not pressed on. Looks like the car gets to go to a muffler shop with cutting and welding equipment to get its messed up exhaust tips 'surgically' removed and new ones fitted. Thanks for your quick response, it's appreciated. |

I just put 3.5" tips on my 335is for something to do the other day. The tips are tack welded on the is model so the hammer and block of wood didn't work. It took longer with a sawzall, dremel, 4 1/2" grinder with various wheels and die grinder to get the old ones off and then modify the new ones to fit, then it did to replace my front right strut.... Happy with the outcome, but I'm never doing that again....

If you don't want to tackle it yourself or pay someone to do it, just buy slip-on's. I think BMS has some.

If you cut off the mufflers with a sawzall using a Diablo metal blade, it will go through the SS exhaust pipe like a hot knife through butter.
You can put the mufflers on a work bench and make the job a whole lot easier. All you need is 60mm or maybe 2 1/2" SS exhaust sleeve clamps. This makes it a lot easier to take the mufflers on & off in the future if you were say going to work on the subframe/ differential etc. |

I agree that going to a shop and having them do the work is probably the best idea here. |
