Zf 6hp19 error 004f84

Carly says:
Insert trailer 07.06 / gear ratio monitoring clutch d

I've been searching all over and it sounds trivial BUT I've been fighting with this damned thing for too long not to ask:
Has anyone else solved 4f84?

I've seen all the other codes mentioned 4f85,4f83,4f81, even 4f8a... but nobody has mentioned 4f84 or clutch pack d before. You could assume they'd be the same but then you'd be punished by your BMW like I have been for months now.

Is this a solenoid problem or a clutch pack problem? Am I replacing the whole thing or just the valve body? Anyone have experience with this?

The clutch packs don't go bad often on stock cars. To troubleshoot ZF issues:

Check fluid level. If level OK
Check fluid quality. If unknown replace fluid, filter and sleeves. If issue is still there.
Repace solenoids in current valve body.

The above will solve 90% of ZF issues. In rare cases, the valve body will need to be rebuild (zipkit) or replaced. This info is from ZF.
