Exhaust Pops and Crackles

My 2019 M5C has lots of pops and crackles when downshifting and a YouTube video I watched of a X5MC sounded like it didn’t. Can any current owners confirm?

None in my 1,500 miles so far. I did hear a couple pops when revving a bit while in Park but basically none while driving in any of the modes. Maybe I'm not driving sporty enough??? Having said that, I owned a M340i for 6 months and heard them often when in sport or sport plus mode.

In a recent YouTube review video that was posted in another thread, the reviewer said that this gen has no pops or crackles.

Yep, that’s what I read too - I believe there was review recently released by an Australian car magazine that said the same thing...despite being the exact same engine as the M8C and M5C, the X5MC and X6MC do NOT share their same exhaust crackles and pops. I believe it was their only complaint about the F95.

The more I watch the videos and don't hear the pops and crackles, the more I kind of like it.

Yes, doesn’t bother me at all. Those burbles and pops always sound a bit manufactured to me anyway (regardless of whether they actually are). Having seen the F95 in person for the first time recently at my dealer, I wouldn’t particularly care for any more attention - the car has incredible physical presence and the engine sounded great as-is.

Well said. The exhaust sound has never been my favorite, especially after owning an E60 M5 in the past. It's like the one who got away, but you never want back.

There is a God!!

Those pops and crackles is the worst automotive trend since those Altezza lights back in the day. All of the idiots kids loves having their exhaust sound like gun shots for some reason. Maybe i am old school but I prefer Vroom over popopppppoppopppp ppppop ratattaataaarattaratatta.

I'm older and I used to feel that way till I got my 2019 X3 M40i.
The pops and crackles are kind of enjoyable to hear. In Sport and Sport Plus, it crackles and pops. Leave it in comfort mode, it is quiet. The best of both worlds.
Really disappointing to hear that the X5M doesn't do the same.

All non US cars have OPF's which remove the pops and crackles and decent noise.

It's a pain.

my buddy just picked up his f95 comp and we were all very excited to hear the gunshots like our friends f90 comp with MPE, you can imagine when it's already been 1200 miles and it 0 pops or bangs. Real shame they got rid of them, really made the sound of the f90 in our opinion, the explosions everytime you downshifted, luckily bm3 is already out for the f90 so prob gonna be ready for the f95 any day now. that should give it some nice bangs along with MPE

yeah i think a tune to get a little more power and some pops and bangs will be needed. The new 2020 M5C dont have them either, id say it has to do with emissions in EU

I was watching shmee's video about his M8 comp and didn't here any but I was hoping thats EU only and US spec car should still have all the gunfire we need! the 18/19 cars honestly sounded biblical even stock in comp form, and the non comp just needed a res delete or aftermarket system and wowowow. MPE was another level, I'm not one who is a fan of the insane non stop burble tunes but the factory level on the M5c was great, that amoun, just even louder to scare everyone around you...
