M Mirrors

For anyone interested in making their X7 stand out a little more, I got in touch with IND and ordered the "M" version mirrors. They did a great job matching the mineral white and very pleased on how they look. Something subtle but adds a bit more a sports flare to the M-Sport.

I am assuming it is a direct swap with the original mirror internals, with all functions (including motorized) still retained? What did IND charge you for the the parts, before the painting?

Do you have any additional pics with a wider view of your X7?

The ring and outer caps are a direct swap. Everything else remains as-is. For pricing, you'll need to reach out to them and painting and shipping is involved.

Here is a wider pic (not mine). Was on the site posted by someone else.

Looks good! I am surprised BMW does not offer this from the factory on the M-sport package, at least on the M50i. And the parts to do it are not that expensive either.

Did you do the install yourself? If so, did you need to remove the entire mirror assembly from the car, or does the outer ring come off with the base of the mirror assembly remaining on the car? I took a look at the factory procedure to remove the mirrors, and it appears that removing the outer supporting ring does not require entire mirror assembly removal, but I was not 100% sure.

It does have a more sporty look, so if you ordered the M-Sport pkg for the look, this does help add to it.

I did do the install, about 15 minutes a side. Simply pop mirror off, disconnect connectors from glass and then remove rear cap. With rear cap off, remove 5 torx screws and remove outer ring. Attach new ring, fasten, attach new rear cap and re-install glass.

Thanks, I am glad it worked out like that. I think I just found my next mod...

I just placed an order for the necessary parts (not from IND though). I have not decided where I will get the mirror caps painted yet (I plan to go with body color). But any decent body shop should be able to match the BMW paint quality for a reasonable cost since the mirror caps come primed and ready to paint and are not big pieces to paint. I may even go with my local BMW dealership which also has a collision repair body shop and pay the premium BMW price so there will be no questions about paint quality.

This mod may not be for everyone (although I would be surprised if anyone with the M-Sport package would not find it appealing). But for a cosmetic mod, the cost/benefit seems very good to me, even for BMW price standards. For anyone who is curious, I got the above four parts for $262 + shipping (exact shipping is different for just those parts as I also ordered other parts at the same time, but I will estimate ~$35 to ship just those parts). A little research reveals that these parts are currently from the G03 X3M and G04 X4M. The X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7 (G-series models) all share the same exterior mirror design so the parts are all interchangeable. It would not surprise me if you see this mirror design on future X7 M50i models (the 2020 X5M has it) - so get in now if you want to be ahead of the curve for the X7 ...

Thanks again to the OP for providing this info.....

I was researching for a mirror part replacement.

Do you know if the mirror housing comes in the body color or just black and white? My car is carbon black but everything I see in the market only stats black or white on the color part...

Not affiliated with this site at all and never ordered from them so I can’t touch for their quality at all but you can orders the caps already paint matched from this place if you didn’t want to mess around with sourcing your own body shop. Price doesn’t seem to bad from what I would estimate my go-to local shop would charge + the part + shipping + my time to get get quotes, drop off/pick up.

Someone hit and broke my driver's side mirror last week. Since I need to get a new driver's side mirror, I am considering these caps.

Have others tried installing the four OEM parts listed above? Seems like a direct swap and an easy install.

I have seen some similar aftermarket mirror caps online. Does anyone know if the OEM's design is different/better?

$23 shipped to your door. Saves you at least a few hundred. Then you can choose to paint additionally or not.

Thank you for sharing. Is the design the same as OEM? These seem similar/identical but its hard to tell from the photos.

How come when installing the OEM, there are four part numbers but all aftermarket caps seem to require only the two plastic caps? What’s the difference?

The only reason I am hesitant is because some aftermarket caps I see online seem to have very poiny and cheap looking design.

I have the shadowline so if they come painted black, they might might actually blend in and look nice.

It all comes down to fitment really with aftermarket parts.
The 4 part numbers are because the HOUSING with the wing are different than what the x7 originally came with.
And you would have to match the CAPS with the correct part (if you get the M style housing you NEED the Mstyle caps).
The OEM ones dont come painted BTW unless you purchase them from IND or have a body shop paint them.

I opted to get dry carbon caps with the M wing mirror housing and just had my shop clear coat the carbon caps it so it doesnt fade/yellow over time with UV rays. Which can compliment your other shadow black trim pieces.

These cheap no names fit just like name brand ones.
Gone are the years where you knew you were going to need to spend a week with bondo or filler to make a body part look decent because you got something from China. Now 90% of these look just as good as OEM does.

I will go through my insurance because it was hit and run and I think it will go through uninsured driver. Turns out there are no aftermarket mirros and there are no used mirrors right now which are $1500. A new one is $1700

So I could just add the OEM parts and pay a bit more out of pocket for the extra paint if the bldy shop is OK with it.

One difference I notice is that the aftermarket cap “winglet” that sticks out is covered from both sides. The triangle is closed off from both sides. The OEM is not, so two parts come together to complete the look. This probably makes it blend better from the driver’s point of view.

Uninsured driver or not you're still paying for it later on. Still counts as a collision(which will also go on your car report but as a minor collision). Just helps if theres someone else to blame since that wont affect your renewal rate.
(of course all of this varies by state and how long you've been with your insurance carrier/driving habits-speeding/miles per year/credit/residence/etc)

If you’re ordering aftermarket mirror caps in the M style, make sure to choose the correct shape. Some versions that don’t follow BMW’s official design can create wind noise while driving.

All done. Picked it up a few days ago. New driver side mirror with aftermarket mirror caps. They came painted black but the body shop repainted them with the same color as the shadow line black color and clear coat.
