BMW Insurance - UK

Hi all,

I’m going to be taking delivery of an M40i in the next month or two.

I’ve been getting quotes on the usual comparison sites, and direct with BMW Insurance, which is quite competitive.

Anyone on here had any experience with or used BMW Insurance in the UK, please?

TIA.

I'm with BMW Insurance. All ok if no mods + were cheapest for me by £100. I like the fact it will be repaired by a BMW bodyshop, not, say Admirals who f****d up my wife's car a treat in saving money with rubbish bits where they could.

We were with Aviva in multi car policy for years but changing my 530 for an X3 their renewal went through the roof so we binned em

Wife’s mini is insured with direct line but BMW were cheapest for my X3 out of all decent insurance companies even with some others wanting ridiculous excess

Have used BMW Insurance a few years ago - wifes' F25 2.0 SE.

I'm not sure I checked them when I got insurance for my M40d in January (doh!), my insurer at the time (Provident) refused to quote me (the previous car was an X3 3.0 M Sport), and I ended up with Tesco.

But no problems with BMW Insurance and would use again.

Got a very good quote from them. Thought they were great to deal with.

Ended up staying with Admiral as they price matched and was easier just to stay with them.

Back to the drawing board I’m afraid.

When I applied for the quote online I entered 3 years NCD. This was because I am coming from a company car and have a letter from my employer saying I’ve had 6 years claim free / accident free motoring, I’d also researched this and it appeared insurance companies would only honour up to 3 years.

However, when I contacted BMW Insurance they said they don’t recognise company car use as NCD so I would have to start at 0 years NCD which meant the quote I previously had jumped by £300.

That's a shame. I think Admiral will recognise it. I started like that with 5 years 'NCB' from a company car. BMW Insurance are picky but once you fit their criterion I think you will find them v good ! I do ... no mods and old lol !!

They also didn't like the fact I wanted to add business use on to my policy so they've never been competitive for me either

I have full business use on my BMW insurance with no problem with minimal excess, they were far cheaper than my insurance with Aviva, and cheapr than quotes from Directl line, john Lewis, Admiral etc
There was a few on one of the compare sites cheaper but they looked rubbish.

Interesting. Maybe it's just the fact that I live in Luton

You can use any body shop of you choice with Admiral and many other insurers. You do forfeit the right to their courtesy car though but the body shop should have one for you anyway.

That said the two times my car has been to the BMW body shop (actual BMW owned body shop not BMW approved like many BMW dealers use). The work was truly shocking and what you would expect of a back street garage not BMW.

The best work I have had done is outside of the 'normal' places you would expect oddly enough so being better than BMW doesn't surprise me sadly.

Admiral's repair place mucked up my wife's Smart car and held it against her for being hit when unattended in a car dealer (whilst she as a photographer was taking pics of cars). I fail to see how they could do that given it was correctly parked and unattended ... but they did !).

If they can't claim off the guilty person's insurance then it's your fault. The rear of my wife's car was hit by a van at traffic lights, the van drove off. We even obtained CCTV showing this but the plate could not be read. In insurance terms it's a fault claim. Certainly, it's not fair.

Exact same problem i had. Went with Admiral who were cheapest and are mod friendly.

I changed my X3 3.0D from Direct Line to BMW last September as they were £100 cheaper, so will be interested to see how the renewal shapes up. I am prepared to shop around and even use the Cashback sites for a bit of extra discount.

Maybe the OP should try DL or Churchill as they don't appear on comparison sites.

I'm insured with BMW Insurance and they were excellent when it came to my stolen 540i.

Really helpful and have even moved my policy after paying out over to my X3 M40d. I can't recommend them highly enough...

I just started getting quotes online - and got shit scared when moneysuperrrrrmarrrrket quoted mid 800's!!! For past few years I have no claims or accidents or points, usually floats around 550ish. Went to comparethemeerkat and was around 510ish.

Be aware that Martin Lewis says there is a curve of risk insurance companies use to correlate when best to buy a policy. I was pretty dumb-founded the lengths they goto, however around 23 days is the sweet spot. Apparently.

I think some number cruncher crunched the data and found a correlation between when people buy insurance vs. how "risky" they are. One of many calculations. That said, I played with comparethemarket and it made little difference to me ...

Yeah, hope you’re sitting down...

About 3-4 months before my car arrived, I started getting quotes and they were £400-£500.

Just before I got the car, it was more like £700-£800! I’ve no idea why there was such a massive jump.

Interestingly, BMW insurance was just under £800, but wouldn’t recognise my 5 years NCD from a company car. Coop insurance, would recognise 5 years NCD from my company car but were just over £800!

Garage List
I've moved to X3 20d msport from 335d. My insurance has almost halved in the move, almost makes up for the yearly car tax increase going from pre april 2017 registered to post april 2017 registered vehicle.

I was paying around £600 with 12 years NCD before the move.

Directly proportional to your enjoyment factor of the car? LOL

Joking aside, seriously what's it like to go from beast to 20d? I only ask in all seriousness is that there may come a day ...
