Bolt On Install Costs

Just got the following quote for installation costs from a reputable shop here in Detroit. Anyone have any feedback on these numbers?

1. Intercooler and charge pipe install (no cutting, bolt on only) - $490
2. Upgraded turbo install $1590
3. Catted downpipe install $590

That's probably 10-15% high for around here, but might be on the money for detroit.

Not a ton of overlapping labor there, except of course the downpipe (i think? ) would have to come off for the turbo install.

That sounds very high for a dp install. Hourly it breaks down to almost 200 and I gave them a generous 3 hours. I would get a second quote.

Some places charge a flat fee for a given service. For example my spring install was $X whether it took 4 hours or 12

I thought so as well. I am not doing a downpipe but wanted the quote for comparison purposes mostly. These all are about 20% higher than I expected.

The places I go to estimate higher than the cost it ends up being. Which is fine with me, because I make sure I have enough money to pay for the work per the estimate, and end up with money leftover as it ends up costing less. Everywhere I go charges by the hour. I think ranging from $85-$115 per hour.

I think I had my intercooler and charge pipes installed with other stuff, so I don't have a labor quote for that. But I know my downpipe install cost $293. Which I think I was overcharged for, because the mechanic that did the work told me it took him 30mins to do.

Most shops will use the book rate from whatever that popular service program is. Most of the time it takes way less time to actually do the work. An intercooler/chargepipe can easily be done by one person with a lift in an hour.
