X3 M40I in sand?

Has anybody ever taken their X3 in sand? Thinking about making a trip to Pismo Beach (once open).
Driving along the beach seems pretty cool.

Any tips?

It’s all tires.

Took My F85 on Ormand beach a few years ago and didn’t really have an issue until I slowed down. You can rock yourself out if you get stuck by going from fwd to reverse and visa Versa. Stay away from sand that is 6” deep if you can and don’t stop in soft sand.

agree the key to drive in the sand it is the pressure on the tires
I would recommend 25psi but you need to get them back to normal when you get out and before going back to the highway

the idea of lower the pressure is to make the tire as flat as possible

Does the M40i have 20" or larger wheels? If yes I would not go near sand. If it has runflats of any size I would not go near sand.

Interesting. From what I've seen it seems like pretty solid sand and not very deep or soft. Will deflate tires before entering though

You will have zero issues with any stock BMW wheels/tires at normal pressures at Pismo. Guaranteed. Stay off the dunes though!

and use manual shifts mode, keep the engine in low rpm and only high when you need to ups dune
they key is to never press the break
always test first, so go with regular tires, check who do you feel the car, later you can always lower psi
a manual tool to measure psi could became useful and practical

Yes I will definitely stay off the dunes in the X3.
Plan to rent a ATV or UTV and hit the dunes in that instead

I drove on the beach there last October on 19rft and it was great. I didnt mess with the pressure at all just stayed by the water where the sand was harder. I had no intention of taking the car on the dunes just spent some time driving up and down the beach. I dont think i ever went over 15 mph. Afterwards i went to a self car wash in Shell Beach just north of there and there is a little cafe right next door to the car wash. We went first thing in the morning and it was pretty empty besides the people already camping.
