Backup camera recall - What is replaced?
Hello, first post. Have 2019 X3 that I sent in today for a backup camera recall; something software related. They said it took 4 hours to get the software update to take and once it did several modules came back as bad. They didn’t specify which modules and they would look into further on Monday and will probably have to order parts.
My question: with a newish car with 30,000 miles, what modules are being replaced and why? This is my first BMW and am slightly concerned what this is and why parts are being replaced with such low miles. Any help would be appreciated. |

During a programming update a module can fail while programming. That module then needs to be replaced. This is likely what happened. That recall is only a software update, so unless a module crashed during programming then nothing else should be replaced on the vehicle.

The rear view camera update is purely software. It simply makes it impossible to adjust contrast so as to lose the image. But during the update, modules can fail. Stuff happens. On an update on my prior G12, the body domain controller failed and had to be replaced. In my case it had to come from Germany, precoded with my VIN and it took a couple of weeks. Hopefully OP doesn't have to wait that long.
