Whoosh noise at WOT Tuned 2020 X3 M40i

Recently installed a JB4 and switched to Map3. Car runs amazingly well and is noticeably faster. However, when I go WOT now, when it gets up in the revs, say above 4.5K, I hear a loud whoosh noise. At first I thought it was the intake, but seems to be coming from the back of the car?

I removed fuse 218 to disable the ASD...still there. It almost sounds like a microphone in the intake box playing in my stereo. Has anyone else heard this?? I'm no stranger to the sounds of turbo(s) as I had a N54 335i with JB4 and all I heard was the good ol' turbo sounds.

Again, I pulled the ASD fuse, unless its not 218 anymore for 2020?

Anyway, any input is greatly appreciated!

Are you hearing this noise when it shifts up gears when you are WOT? If so it's the exhaust. Under full load the exhaust makes a nice loud noise when it shifts I personally enjoy

Also the stock intake on the 2020 M40i does make a noticeable sucking sound if your are giving it the beans. It might be louder now that you are running a mapped tune.

Yeah, it's definitely at WOT. I love the shift sound, too, especially in Sport+. My GF refers to it as the fart shift!

I was thinking its the intake too, and I'll probably get a cone filter anyway but it's so odd...it seemingly sounds like it's coming from the back.

If you pulled the fuse when the flap was closed you might be hearing the air at the flap. I opened my valve one time and it ended up being the valve wasn't opened yet and it sounded kinda funky. Plug it back in and see if you still hear it.

I was wondering about the exhaust flap, I thought that was fuse 208? I had pulled 218 to disable ASD (engine sounds over sound system) because the noise sounded like it was coming over the speakers. But I did wonder if the exhaust was making that noise, I'll pull 208 too and report back!

Alright, problem solved. It was the exhaust flap! So the JB4 builds in a "can flap" feature that lets you use the BC button to control if the flap is open or closed. Well, I'm pretty sure when I switched to Map 3, from Map 2, it resets to closed maybe? Anyway, I set the JB4 to open the flap and then also pulled fuse 203. The whoosh is gone and the car just flippin' screams now. Thanks for the input, guys!
