Miracast?? Other options for screen mirroring?
When I first coded video in motion through bimmercode, I got it working, and downloaded an (Android) app called "Cast Player".
It works... not "awesome"... but it works. Lots of steps to connect, several popup ads, and the display on my idrive screen is only about 70% of the screen, not 100% as I'd hoped. Overall... just "ehh". I noticed that the idrive system refers to "Miracast" within it's menus, so I thought perhaps if I download the one listed in I drive, it would be more user friendly, and work better with my car. Except...... there's about 20 different "Miracast" apps on the Android store, from about 20 different developers. So..... questions: 1) Is the "Miracast" app going to work well with my car as I would hope? 2) Which "Miracast" app should I download? (From which developer?) 3) Something even better? Thanks in advance!

Only get it to work with my Android. Apple Screen Mirror does not utilize Miracast, it is within its own ecosystem.
I found it works better on "desktop mode", at least it utilized the full height of the dash screen and your Android phone serves as a touch pad to control the cursor on the screen. |

I've found overall...... that this simply isn't worth it. Yes, it technically "works", but it is not intuitive at all. The display is only 2/3 of the screen size, the time and complexity involved to connect is cumbersome, and once it is connected, you can't utilize anything else on idrive. It's screen-mirroring ONLY.
Waiting for Android Auto to be pushed. That may make it more user-friendly. But after doing this whole screen-mirroring thing several times over several months.... I just stopped.

On my samsung S10 phone I have an icon in the pull down menu named smart view. With this you can cast the phone screen to idrive.. no need to install any app from the store.
Works good. I have used it a few times when waiting in the car. |

I use it as well when i need google maps up on the screen. Downside is that you cannot use your phone while casting.
