Remote start in X3 coming soon?

I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this. But the latest 3 series, 7 series, X5 and X7 all have Remote Start as options when you go to build them. Anyone know if the X3 will get it?

I like the X5, but its a little too big for my taste. I got the X3 as a loaner a few times and fell in love with it. But really miss having remote start in general.

I am curious to see if the new LCI on the 5 series will also have this option once the builder for it is available.

Also, has anyone heard of an LCI in sight for the X3?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea. A few have claimed it is coming as a software update, but there's no proof of that. I don't even know how the X3 gets software updates outside of going to the dealership and asking them if there is one. I really wanted an X3 M, but skipped it because it's still IDrive 6.

The 5 LCI has a Remote Start option. I'd guess that it will be added to the X3 with its LCI which should be introduced next summer as a 2022 model.

It was odd that the X3 M was introduced with iD6. When it came out as a MY20, there was speculation that the MY21 would be introduced early and would include iD7. That did in fact happen a couple months ago.

I believe this has been wholly done to death in other threads. No chance.

The LCI for the X3 as far as I have sussed is next spring/summer, the X3 petrol had its MY21 updates in April & the Diesel has just had its MY21 updates namely the MHEV technology & the updated B57 TU engine with secondary SCR

Hmmm . . . there's a lot of confusion about the different types of start and entry systems. The newer systems - Remote Start and Digital Key - are very different.

Using Remote Start, you can start the car from the Connected app, but a regular key is still needed to drive away. That's what the 5 LCI is now offering. I don't think that anyone has claimed that the X3 LCI can't have it as well.

Digital Key is very different. That's the credit card like product that replaces the regular key and requires NFC hardware. It's less likely that it would show up in the X3 LCI (it wasn't added to the 5 LCI). The Digital Key could be used in place of the regular key to drive away after the car is Remote Started.

Point was, that a thread with the same topic already exists. Anyone can post there whether with intelligent post or not. Now we have at least two threads to read and confuse anyone new coming to board.

Idrive 7 vehicles will get remote start option to purchase via connected drive portal in summer 2020. This includes 2020 X3 with idrive 7.

So great to have you on this board! That would likely mean that Remote Start will be an option for MY21s?

Most likely an available option on the connected drive portal once released. Not sure if it will be an option on the actual builder or option sheet.

viability of retrofitting id7 setup to make it work on previous gens? I use the hell out of remote start on my truck.

It has been said a lot in the forums and everywhere else. You can not realistically retrofit or upgrade to idrive 7. It would be prohibitively expensive to even attempt to get it to work.

At this point I've heard it will come with the SP18 that will provide "full iDrive 7" as part of the LCI for the MY2022 (and orderable in early June). From what I've seen on other posts, this isn't something to expect in anything prior to a MY2022 X3.

When I bought my X3M a few months ago, the dealer said all idrive7 will eventually be unlocked for remote start. I'm not holding my breath, but it has nothing to do with sp18 as the rudiments are already there.

No more info yet. I still assume at some point they will release for SP15 and also release the option for other SP18 cars to purchase remote start as a Connected Drive purchase.
