Wheel Questions

Thinking about getting new wheels. Anyone know if there are any issues going 10” wide in the front? It’s only 0.5” wide than stock.

These are the two wheels I’m thinking about getting:

https://vossenwheels.com/wheel/hf-3/

https://avantgardewheels.com/avant-g...20-r/#thewheel

I know my previous car had clearance issues around the caliper. Do our cars have the same issue? Anyone know if the above wheels will have issues clearing the caliper?

You shouldn’t have a problem with only a 1/2 inch increase in wheel size. However, especially with Vossen you can have customized offsets and if you push the wheels out more you can bring them closer to the fenders for an improved look, or add wheel spacers for the same effect.

Thanks. Do you know what offsets are needed for a more flush look versus the OEM offsets of 22x9.5 et37 front and 22x10.5 et43 rear?

The factory offsets are 37mm front and 43mm rear on a 9.5 and 10.5 inch wide rim. Going with a 10 inch front means they will add both inward and outward 6.35mm. On the factory 22s I put 12mm wheel spacers on the front and 15mm in the rear which is conservative.

However, now that I have lowering springs there is a bit more negative camber so I could go with some more spacing.

You will have to decide if you plan to lower the car for the perfect offset or plan to buy wheel spacers in the future. I’m about to remove my spacers for custom wheels so if you are interested let me know.

Also consider if you are going with the 10 inch wheel up front on the same size tire you will have slightly less overall width. And depending on if your M50i has the Perelli or Continental tires, the Continentals are fatter on the rims.

After lowering: If the camber is adjusted by wheel alignment to match the stock angle will that result to the same position as stock (horizontal)? I'm new to this so interested to learn about your experience.

Yes, but depending on how much lowering it may not be possible to get all the way back to factory settings without additional parts/modifications.

Thanks! At least the top pops in so there's an option to use spacers or leave it as is (not considering effect on wear/etc).

So I was quoted a good price: $3k for the following sizes in gloss black, delivered.

22x10.5 et38 front
22x12 et36 rear

Can anyone tell me how far out these would stick? The I actually do not like the look where the wheels stick out. I prefer the OEM look where it’s slightly tucked or flush.

https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

Wheels will pop out 11.7/26 mm F/R. It will also extend inside 13.7/12 mm F/R.

I've been watching users' 22 offsets here and that setup would be the most aggressive at both outside pop (26 mm rear) and inside (~14 mm front, 12 mm rear).

That would be like adding 11.70mm spacers on the front and 26.05mm on the rear. You won’t like it. The front would be okay but the rear would probably bulge out by 5mm.

An even offset would be to add between 12-15mm front and 15-20mm rear depending on how much negative camber you have.

Yeah, no more AG wheels. Weird he couldn’t give a precise size. I’m not ordering blind.

I’m considering these two now.

Yes, you will just have to adjust the offsets.

If you’re curious about offsets and how many mm produces what results, the dealer I’m working with was nice enough to share a Vossen example on our vehicle with the following offsets from OEM. However, what he stated as the difference versus OEM and the actual build didn’t add up, so I’m just quoting him. I’m going 10mm out from OEM.

Quote:
This specific vehicle pushed out 15mm front 19mm rear. Pictures are provided. Setup is 22x9.5 22mm / 22x10.5 18mm Vossen HF-5. With 10mm front and rear, you'll be perfect. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have

The back looks really off and sticks out. If they are truly ET 22 front and ET 18 rear then that actually means they come out 15mm front and 25 mm rear more than factory. Tell the dealer to check their math. I can believe the front is +19mm but the back looks like more than 21mm. Also is this the factory springs or is it lowered?

For whatever reason I actually thought these HF5 Vossen wheels would look a lot better than they do here. They don’t seem to pop much.

Well, dark or black wheels always photographs poorly; they tend to look a lot better in person.

Also, I like gloss black wheels. Just something about them that strikes a chord with me (I had them on my S7). However, after looking at a lot of different black wheels, one thing I’ve noticed is that black wheels look a lot better with more and larger spokes. Having black wheels with few or fewer and thinner spokes (like the HF-5) just makes the void look too large.

Also, yeah, he did the math wrong. I think the correct offset is the one he quoted with the actual build, which is 15mm front (or et22) and 25mm rear (or et18) from stock. That rear is sticking out a lot and it’s easily almost an inch more than OEM.

Finally, it does look lowered. Assuming it has air suspension, they could have just placed the vehicle in cargo mode to take the picture.
