Used MPPK 340i
I recently posted a question on is buying a tuned 2016 340i a good idea, and alot of people on the forum told me its not and walk away from it. Today I just find out the tune is acutally the MPPK as I looked under the hood and the M performance Power kit Badge was on the engine cover. People told me not to buy a tuned used car, but if it's OEM tuned is it less risky? Also CARFAX show this was done at BMW dealership around 30k miles, this car is currently at 39k miles, its has the MPPK along with a Dinan air intake. Is this car worth buying?

Its a little hard to give advice on a car that we haven't seen but people are wary of tuned cars because of reliability concerns with stretching the design limits of the engine. However, this doesn't mean that a car is bad if it was properly modified (although many may disagree).
Do you have any more info/insight onto anything else done to the car or service history. |

if it was me I would buy it. even some of the aftermarket tunes are not pushing these motors to their limits (not even close), and the mppk is not much of a tune compared to others on the market, it's not even a stage 1 by comparison..

If all other variables are to your liking (i.e. price, condition, color, options etc.)... consider the MPPSK the cherry on top! You are getting the factory flash tune plus the M performance valved exhaust. If the previous owner spent an extra $3k to buy MPPSK, I would think he took care of the car too.

The only thing that bothers me is that they told me they could certify the car before and now they can’t, cause of the tune, but it’s a bmw OEM tune, why can’t they certify a bmw OEM tuned car? And the reason he give me is cause they know people will go hard on these cars so they don’t want to give the warranty, that sounds pretty bs to me.

probly a liability or policy thing on their end, if it's something they deem is less trouble in the future then they don't cover it. makes sense from a business standpoint I guess, but I would ask if their is something they can either do on pricing or an extended warranty. I wouldn't like the idea of being given a price+cpo, then paying the same price later after it not being a cpo.

Everyone has already given you their advice. You seem awfully adamant on buying this car. Either but it or don't. No point in waiting until someone tells you the opinion you want to hear to do what you already know your going to do.
There isn't a "right or wrong", it's a personal preference. For example, I would have no problem buying that car but I also have a second car, a garage full of tools, and enough mechanical know how to do most of the small things that could pop up so it's not as big of a risk. You might have a different situation. That's what you need to consider. Advice from knowledgeable strangers only goes so far. You have to do what's right for you. And make sure you are making the decision with your HEAD and not your heart. Decisions of the heart mixed with bmw's tend to end in expensive life lessons!

I have a 2017 340i Msport with the mppsk and the Dinan CAI and absolutely love it. This car blows just about anything out of the water short of full M badged cars.

Do you really think this car hasn't be sold or bought by now, after 4 months? A 340 with MPPSK...
He went for a 440, looking at his profile

Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, but what's the big deal on tuned cars? Like yeah, I get it, if someone has gone completely bonkers and did full pure stage 2 turbo + meth + custom tunes, that's one thing, but a simple stage 1 Tune? You're fine.
My car has an upgraded intercooler, charge pipe, and BM3 Stage 1. I am perfectly comfortable with that. Anything beyond that I would understand being wary. Tunes are not bad for your car. They are completely reliable, actually. They do however accelerate any potential maintenance and/or issues that may arise from your car in its the normal state. Oil changes every 10 or 5k? Now do it every 5k or 2.5k. Spark plugs every 30? Now do every 12-15. Etc. That is the only thing I can think of when tuning cars. It just wears your car faster, making you have to maintain it faster. My .2 |
