Help needed please
Sold daughters spare IBIZA key on ebay after we were told her car was a write-off, now after 3 months buyer wants partial refund stating the key can not be programmed to his car as its still locked to the old car! I haven't got a clue about coding keys & assumed the buyer bought it for its as new case, spring, or battery. He has now opened a case with PayPal, shall I give in and refund him some money or take my chances with the dispute...IF he wins do I get the goods back?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply but does not say if a used key can be programmed or if its locked to a previous car.

Did you specifically state on the listing could be recoded etc? Did you list it as spares and repairs? What you worded on the listing could be crucial to PayPal's view to the buyer. I would push back - know this - if you did refund PayPal now keep the fees - so it will cost you to refund him. If you do refund him insist you want the key back of course... |

I had similar in Jan. Sold a mirror that was folding but fold didnt work. Was very clear about that in the listing. I packaged it up, bubble wrapped to oblivion and he then submittted a request for refund as it arrived broken on one of the triangle tips where it meets the car. No way did that happen in transit the way I packaged it.
I called his bluff and said fine I'll give you a full refund send the mirror back. He countered with do 50% off. I countered with no chance, the photochromic mirror included is worth as much as I sold the whole mirror for, so send it back to me and I will issue full refund. Never heard another thing |

I didn't mention spares or reprogramming, I auto assumed they would use it for spares. As for the listing as its been over 90 days I cant get the old advert.
This is the item No. 333514604980

I'd say 3 months is well outside of the time period for a return. I'd also say unless you specifically said it could be recoded he's bought it on the assumption it has, which really isn't your problem.
I'd let it play out and I'd fancy your chances. |

How you listed it is what he got. Tell him to go pound sand. Or follow Skyjawa's approach and tell him its full refund or nothing. This 'person' is clearly trying to just get some money back...over £19 no less - what a moron (thanks for reminding me why I don't use ebay anymore!) |

I’ve had a couple in the past and they will side with the buyer unfortunately or at least they always did.
I sold a pole dancing pole a while back and the buyer immediately open a case wanting her money back, it’s was around £180 as she says she didn’t like the way it was wrapped! Nothing wrong with it I just think she had buyers remorse. Anyway PayPal withdrew the money from my account, I only won as because I was a private seller she had to pay the P&P to send it back which she didn’t want to do, she eventually added a false tracking number and PayPal / eBay sided with me. By all accounts I was one of the lucky ones, hence why I hardly sell on there anymore! |

Yep, as above they will side with the buyer. I sold an iphone on ebay - the buyer paid too much (was slightly damaged case but worked perfectly). he paid over the odds. 2 weeks after getting it he said the microphone didn't work. I refused the return so he opened a case with ebay / paypal. I had to refund and they made me pay the postage back.
Got it back and tested and all the microphones worked fine. Not a single issue. Told ebay - not interested. Sold phone again, buyer was delighted with it - although i got less than the first time (more in line with what i was expecting). Buyers remorse! |

I’d say screw it and tell them to go whistle.
Absolute worst case is eBay/PayPal refund in full but out of principle even if they win the case I’d make them work for it just for being a chancer. |

This was he's last message to me...
"Sorry but you cannot You cannot describe item as excellent working condition and then find it’s not possible to reprogram. As a locked key it’ is useless. If you intended to sell for spares then you should have stated. I am not in the wrong here. Your key is deemed as “faulty” as it cannot be used. I have had to go to great expense to buy a new key as yours was of no use. It is for that reason I am asking fir a refund. This is a reasonable request"

I have asked for proof that it can not be reprogrammed (technicians report) also proof that he spent £125 on a new key like he states.

tell him to send it back to you and then give him a full refund. this is always what i do when a buyer starts moaning........mostly, they give in and decide to keep the item.
he sounds like a total chancer - best out of it. |

I fail to see how he can complain he’s had to go to great expense to buy a programmable key... assuming what he’s said is true that old ones can’t be reprogrammed, he would have had to have done this anyway so his point is moot.
Tell him to jog or or as others have said, tell him to return it and then wait until eBay force the refund just to be petty! He’s waited this long so just drag it out to be awkward |
