Strange wire with connector on the right side luggae area

If you open the trunk and check on the top right corner, this connector hanging loose. Does anyone know what it is? Honestly I don't know if it's been like that since I bought the car or not.

I will have to check my car but I am almost certain that it should not be like that. BMW would not leave an exposed wire connector like that on purpose unless something was messed with or modified to do so

Looks like the connector for the defrost wiring.

It's probably a tech forgetting to plug it in. I would take off the trim piece and find where it goes and plug it and call it a day.

Correct. If OP is comfortable taking it apart and plugging it back in, or if not not a trip to the dealer should be a few minutes fix. And as others said definitely not normal.

It is either the power to the rear window defroster, the rear wiper, or the rear window brake light. Do all of those functions work? It is not normal.

That connector definitely shouldn't be sticking out. Remove the center upper trim piece from the tail gate first. It's just clips. Then remove the two pieces on either side, also just clips. I'm not entirely sure where the connector goes.
