We should all be interested in how this type of car pans out.

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...t-ev-hot-hatch

The headline stats look quite appealing:-

- 310 Mile Range
- 0-30 in 2.9s maybe then 5.5 to 62 fairly warm/hot hatch
- 2021 Car becomes a reality

Now I'm not the biggets VAG group fan but this might be one of the first out the blocks of the new world EV Hot Hatches.

Time will tell...

I'm interested.

After test driving a Tesla model 3, I've decided I'll never be buying a new ICE powered car again. Not that a T3 is an exciting car to drive, but on today's traffic clogged, speed limited roads, it delivers exactly the experience you want, whilst costing less to do so. At the same time PPF strangled ICE just don't push the buttons the same way.

Classic cars for ICE fun, EV for ultra efficient daily trudging.

I was reading about the Polestar 2 today... as a bit of a Volvo fanboy in the past, who likes the thought of a slightly raised 5 door hatch (I liked the 640!) it could be my next car - but only if I can afford a nice classic petrol powered (ideally V8) in the garage...

Hmmmm....

Definitely interesting although I'm always wary of what they don't say. Just like fossil fuel cars, the figures they quote are 'ideal' figures that most won't realise in real life conditions. Looks decent though, unlike the bulbous monstrosities we've seen before

The real range of EVs seems to be about 70% of the quoted figures so this probably has a range of about 200 miles. Fine for a second car, but until there is a decent charging network out there, it's too much of a compromise as a main car. Tesla are the only ones with anything approaching a proper network.

Perhaps if I spent each day sitting in traffic I would feel differently, but where I live an EV would be a pain. It doesn’t help that EVs cost about double their ICE equivalent.

Doubtless the first of many. As battery tech gets better then we will see more.
The problem is for me, I want to hear and feel some mechanics going on and keeping a petrol car at say 4k as you round a corner then flooring it to the redline is partner the fun.

I imagine the top spec hot hatch EV cars will have silly 0 to 60 times etc but us ludities want some noise!

Plus Why do manufacturers of EV cars have to make crap interiors? Tesla is a prime example.

interesting that they decided to use a rear mounted motor....very un-Cupra like. Should be good for instant power drifts......

Yes indeed. I saw this and you're the first to comment the same. Nice to see shove rather than pull and quote a move for Cupra.

Also confession time when I first read the article I needed to read twice to confirm it wasn't 0-62 in 2.9s

The performance stats are very strange. Normally the 0-30 time is FAR less than 30-62 time.

A result of losing the potential energy of a high revving engine before launch though possibly? Should be good fun whilst rolling.

me too!!!

0-60 in 5 or 6s used to be FAST and now its just another family / diesel / electric car.

If its not 4s or less, we dismiss it.
