Surprising thing is that there are many people who actually pay these prices...

At 72k on a xDrive, most of the things on that list sounds about right. The prices are highway robbery though.
Take the work over to a good BMW guru. If you plan to keep the car long-term, then do the fluid changes. If you plan to dump the car in a few years, then skip it.

The only price that seems reasonable is the trans fluid service. For the rest, really do yourself a favor and find a reputed indy and pay them a visit to see which ones of those actually need doing. You will get them done for about 40% less.

Absolute highway robbery! Not sure what they mean by fuel injector service. I would ignore.
For the other stuff, find a well recommended independent BMW mechanic in your area. Check BimmerShops website for a list. Buy the fluids and parts from FCP Euro. Don't cheap out or buy into marketing hype about other fluids. Just buy BMW fluids at a discount. Front differential (0.5 liter), rear differential (1 liter) and transfer case (1 liter of Shell fluid since they make it for BMW). These are all suction and fill. All can be done at once. Transfer Case suction only replaces half of the fluid each time and that can be done more often so save remainder of TC fluid for next time you are in for servicing. Automatic transmission is a pan, filter and fluid replacement. It's a very specific procedure so have someone experienced do it. Use the cheaper ZF Kit since ZF make the trans for BMW. Let the Indy mechanic supply the coolant and brake fluid. Replace ALL brake fluid every two years for safety. Assuming you have 300mm rear brakes since you don't say otherwise. Hawk 5.0 are best street pads with best bite, instant warm up and low dust. Avoid ceramic pads. Their bite is no better than average and they don't work until they heat up. Don't want to jump in the car to go to work and have no brakes at the first stop sign! Hawk 5.0 pads for rear 300mm brakes HB749B.648 See photo to find out which rear handbrake you have: 160mm or 185mm. You must buy rear rotors that match the handbrake installed on your car at the factory. Zimmermann makes great German replacement rotors. 300mm X 20mm rear rotor part numbers: 150.2902.20 300mm (185mm) 150.3498.20 300mm (160mm) If I brought these parts to my Indy it would all be done same day easily. He would charge $200 labor for the rear brakes. He'd probably charge about $400-$500 to do all of the other fluids at the same time. Hope this helps! |
