Anyone have OBD interface for laptop etc?

Thinking of getting one and wondered if anyone had tried / had success with getting info from the on board diagnostic (OBD) port to a laptop etc?

Wireless or Bluetooth would be preferable.

Example

For the price listed of the "example" there will not be software.

You might try this link:

Note that eBay link uses the serial port that modern laptops do not have. However. I guess it could work via a USB to serial converter.

Minimal information (and an e46 connector) that provides the minimum amount required under the various worldwide construction regs, introduced as an OBD-II protocol to try and make information more accessible and preventing the main dealers having a stranglehold on servicing. It does give some information but not much of interest. Autologic it aint....

I have the BMW software if you want a copy Ant.

I can blip you a disk over.

Not the easiest of installs and you may need a different cable as it prefers an older IBM laptop with 9pin serial for comms.
But if you want a copy let me know.

You can change all sorts of things, reset fault codes before going into the dealer if it is anything to do with boost or stuff like that!
You can add say USB or bluetooth, change your nav or add voice etc.

Basically a coding and diagnostic tool.

You can change stuff with the Autologic system, but not with this basic OBD stuff. You can read and reset fault codes but you cannot re-code modules - for that you need Autologic.

You can recode with INPA that I linked to above.

It depends what software you use with your cable.

Really? Nice one! So with the software link you have posted you just need that, a laptop, and a suitable cable?

I just downloaded the software - looks like you can do all manner of scary things! Is the cable / interface posted in the OP suitable? Will any OBDII<>PC interface work with the software?
