Anyone else in the South West attempt a beach today?
Took the day off, drove from Bristol to Ogmore in Wales. Car park was stuffed so had to drive to the back up which is away from the decent beach, then had to carry two rucksacks (one was full of barbell weights for the picnic blankets) a cool box and a metal sun lounger 500m to the beach with terrain you'd usually need ropes for. It was only 20 degrees, had half hour of sun before it clouded over, which I thought was ok as still warmish but then I drew the line when it started raining. Carried said equipment back up said terrain even though I'd completed annual leg day only a few days prior and still having hallmarks of walking like John Wayne.
Saw back home was 32 degree so drove back, at which point within 30 minutes of being in the garden it clouded over and now it's gusting so hard I'm having to hold my beer still. Annoyed is an understatement! Anyone else have better luck? Saw the M5 was totally blocked from 10am too and the weather in Cornwall/Devon looks even worse so I feel worry for all these people stuck in that for a crap weekend! |

Haven't gone to a beach but it's currently 35 in Cambridgeshire, saw 37.5 degrees driving back from the gym.
I've got a night shift tonight which will be fun after the usual idiots have spent all day in the sun, drinking. It's going to be a busy one.. |

So.... you are complaining about all the people going to the beach (during a pandemic) when you were one of the people going to the beach (during a pandemic)?

Everyone was miles from each other (that's why the first car park was 'full' due to social distancing) and I was about 10m from the next nearest person on the 'beach' I ended up on. I'm complaining about the wasted day's holiday and the weather being utterly rubbish everywhere I went when everywhere else had the hottest day of the year. Also, to address your agenda, previous mass gatherings over the past few months had little effect on said pandemic - until drinking resumed and then we have tightening. So I don't think open air beaches are the problem here. |

Sure. Two weeks holidaying at my in-laws cottage in South Devon. Weather has improved nicely, beaches aren't too busy, people are distancing sensibly, and I'm just the right shade of pink.
I wouldn't want to be heading to the major resorts, but the smaller seaside towns are fine.
