Replacement brake pads
I'm going to a 2 day track day in 2 weeks in Elkhart Lake WI. Part of the checklist of items to bring is a spare set of brake pads. If I'm going to wear out the stock pads having fun at the track I would like to replace them with something that is lower in dust and performs better. Does anybody have any actual experience with alternate pads on their e90. If so what brand and type.

i believe warranty only covers normal wear and tear of brake pads...not tracking
as for brake pads, here are some manufacturers.. Axxis EBC Ferodo Race Pads Ferodo Street Pads Hawk Performance Mintex Pagid Performance Friction Porterfield Raybestos Race Pad SBA try and find one that will provide u with the same or better stopping distance as oem and less brake dust. always a bonus when u dont have to get on your hands and knees and scrub ur rims too much |

Has any body actually used EBCs or others on their E90 or previous. I'm looking for a recommendation based upon experience.

How was your day at the track? May 30th I will be going to NHIS and have been looking for better track pads. I have been unsucessful in finding any replacement pads for the E90. What did you end up doing? If you used the stock pads how did they hold up? If anyone has part numbers or a source for E90 pads please let me know.

Track day was outstanding! The stock pads held up fine even after repeated heavy braking from 100-125 mph. The pics below represent about 125 mph heavy braking on a downhill coming into that corner.
Actually e46 330i pads will fit. The spring clip for the rear does not fit but the pads fit perfect. You can order pads from bimmerworld.com.

I would go with Porterfield R4S pads. I ran them before and they are amazing! A little warmup is needed though, so beware!!

So I finally received and installed my EBC RedStuff pads. So far so good. They DEFINATELY have much more grip than the stock pads. They are supposed to be lower dust and appear to be so far - I'll need more time to tell for sure. As far as performance on the track I won't know until spring.

Road America is my favorite track. Did you get any lap times?
PS Those pics of Turn 5...try approaching that downhill at 160 mph in a race, braking and downshifting all the way from 6th to 2nd! Last one to brake either gets the inside line or a heart attack and off track excursion! Did they run the full kink or the modified kink after the carousel? |

I've been using Rotex Kevlar Gold on several of my past cars, and never found a superior pad, anyone know how well those work on BMWs? I ran on EBC Green Stuff once but the fronts only lasted me 8000km of city driving.

An update as promised...
I am very pleased with the EBC Redstuffs. These pads throw off virtually zero dust and have much better braking capability than the stock pads. The 'zero dust' benefit is huge in my eyes. I once again took the car to Road America this year. Last year I had stock pads, this year the Redstuffs. The braking power is great with no fade. Big brake kits are just not required on this car (except for looks if that is your preference). Road America is a very fast track that is absolutely abusive on brakes. The Redstuffs held up great. I won't argue the fact that they wear faster than the stock pads. Despite this downside, I would definately buy them again and would recommend them to those who want both more brakes and less dust. I have attached a picture of my car AFTER a weekend on the track. You can see the brake dust is pretty minimal given the 125+mph hard braking that was going on all weekend.

I have not had any noise issues with these pads at all. I have no anti-squeal compound on the pads.

From past experience, EBC Green has good braking power but still dusts like crazy. Others at car shows have had same experience. I've been using Rotex on all my previous BMWs with no issues.....and ZERO DUST!!!
